Somebody was wanting to build an AR-10 on here the other day. If you haven't already started your build, here's a builder set for $300 in black and $325 in FDE:

(Nothing in the advert mentions being a blem, not sure why the URL says that)

Stupid question but I have never built a rifle before. What else do I need in addition to the DTT link? I am thinking a butt stock and a lower receiver?
DallasAggies01

You'll just need a compatible lower receiver for that one.

The M5E1 (E for Enhanced...they make a standard upper, the M5...be aware) is the most accurate upper design you can buy.

Because of the way it's designed, every contact surface is machined to a very tight tolerance. I get wholesale pricing from them and have built a half dozen uppers and complete rifles on the M5E1 platform.

With a good barrel they are outstanding. I built two this month in 6.5CM. Both on Faxon Gunner barrels. An 18" rifle as a graduation present for my nephew and a 16" as an experiment in short barrel 6.5CM use for LE sniper training.

We have a custom Bergara/MagPul/Huber 16" bolt gun built for the same thing...it was exceptional. (I know pics...the post photobucket world sucks for me...)

Both these latest guns on Faxon barrels put rounds 5 thru 10 into .6 or less (130 Berger Hybrids). Doing chrono work later this morning on the 16".

The op's Link is a great deal.

Can someone show me what else I need from the shuyler link? Bored in the evenings with nothing to do since it gets dark so early so this may keep me busy for a little while.

Buy the complete lower atvthe bottom of the page.

You will need a barrel, gas block and tube, charging handle and a complete BCG. For the BCG I highly recommend a LanTac.

I really love Faxons stuff lately.

Their pencil barrels are my go to for lightweight builds.

Don't buy the complete lower since the builder kit comes with the lower.

It's a great deal. If those are blems, Aero's blems are very minor but they are real blems unlike PSA. I've ordered quite a few and they are functionally completely fine but will have extra dings in the receiver, cerakote finish issues, etc but nothing that will degrade from performance.

Just looked into it. Bear creek barrel most likely.

Looking through their stuff and found this:
https://www.deltateamtactical.com/ELD-Performance-Premium-Match-Grade-223-Wylde-16-Spiral-Fluted-Nitride-Stainless-Two-Tone-Barrel_p_4861.html

Definitely BCA. Some have had good experiences with them. Personally, I have had a lot of problems. Still have about a dozen barrels from them from when I first opened because they caused so much grief that I won't use them for builds anymore. "Premium match grade" and $80 does not compute.

Dang you OB. I bought the builder's set in the OP.
I have a Geissele SSA sitting in my office. Based on the comments here, I think I'm gonna try a Faxon barrel. Any suggestions on the remaining parts??
BCG?
Lower Parts kits?
Furniture?
Gonna build 6.5CM. I'll jump on that bandwagon

What's the issue w the M5 upper and lower receiver? I bOught these a while back to build a 6.5. But was wondering how much better is the m5e1.

Dang.

I posted during black Friday sales I'd been wanting to do an AR10.

With these 2, if shipping if free, that's a complete 308 on your doorstep for $500 after tax, plus an FFL fee.

I bought a regular Aero Stripped lower from Primary arms when it came with a free stripped upper or something along those lines.

I havn't begun my build, but should I ditch that in favor of this M5E1 set? These technical details are ones I am not versed in yet. Am I going to gain anything in accuracy or a reason I should consider unloading what I have and get this instead?

That's what I was asking too. I bought the same ones you did. I'm wondering why the m5 is less than the m5e1

You guys are good. You are actually more limited with the e1 in what handguards you can use

You are correct. You are limited to exactly one handguard with the E1. Two if you count two different lengths.

I outlined the technical advantages in my post above. They designed it to minimize non machined interfaces, and to give added strength where it's needed most.

Having built several extremely accurate uppers with E1's I am a believer. One of mine, a 6.5CM, had a 22" Criterion Stainless Select barrel and among other things I shot a three shot group at 750 that measured 2.7 inches. That upper is just silly how well it shoots.

Two on the bench right now, one a 16" and the other an 18" 6.5CM. The 16" has been living in an E1 and yesterday put five rounds of 120 ELD-M into a ragged hole at 100. I got an M5 upper and the new S1 handguard so I am swapping the 16" barrel to the M5 and putting the 18" on the E1. Should be interesting to see if the 16" is still bugholing rounds.

The E1 HG leaves a lot to be desired. But the system is worth it in my opinion.

Not 100% sure this is correct on the M5E1, but it may be. Have you looked? I haven't had a reason to yet and am not finding any info in a cursory look on if the following transfers over to the M5E1. I know the M4E1 uppers will take Seekins and I think Spikes handguards that use the BAR system... which is partially standardized I think... but I'm not sure if the M5E1 system is normalized that much. With how the rest of the AR10 system pretty much pisses in the wind to see where it wants to go with designs, it probably isn't but I haven't really looked hard into it either. When we order the E1s, it's always as a set.

If there are other options I sure would be interested. The E1 HG isn't terrible. I just prefer narrow ID's on the tubes.

I don't think that you can get anything narrower on them due to the design. It'll be a full width design unless it narrows after the mounting zone. I do like the enhanced handguards, they just don't excite me. Good, solid units but there are a lot sexier options out there, as well. Now, the Seekins flat bottom rail may work. If so... giggity.
