How long do you want to ignore this user?
I am thinking about getting a console safe for my GMC 1500 but am wondering, is it necessary.... I can just use my glove box. Does anyone here use console safes to store your pistols? Side note, I live in Houston and so thief is very common in my hood.

Thanks in advance

I have the tuffy safe from Amazon in my f150 and it has worked great. Fortunately, I haven't had to test out the durability against robbers but they seem to be pretty good.

Separate note, make sure you get the key one and not the code... they key is allegedly stronger, but again I have no personal experience.

I have the Console Vault in my Suburban. Easy to install. I got the combo lock on mine. It will definitely deter the average smash & grab type thief but if they have a few minutes and a crowbar, they could get in. I got it because I almost always have a pistol with me at work but I don't have a LTC. So if I have to follow someone inside any buildings, I can lock my gun up for the few minutes I'm in there.

The Tuffy or the Console vault are both way more secure than a glove box. Those things are way easy to break into.

Have had a Lock 'Er Down for years now. Love it. as mentioned above, you can still get into it with time and tools. But it will deter smash and grabs for sure. A good investment bin my eyes and I will have one in every vehicle I own from now on. (On number two now)

Saw this on a gun show I watch on the outdoor channel. I am pretty skeptical about durability as well as value. It seems very expensive for the limited number of pistols that fit the dimensions.

What do you all think?

If you're going to get a Concole Vault get the key lock, not the combo lock. The combo lock can be broken much quicker and easier than the key lock.

Trust me, I know from experience.

I have had a Console Vault or similar in my last 2 vehicles. It paid for itself in my F250 about a month after I installed,it when i was broken into.

Will likely always have one as a result. Like, others have aaid, it wont stop somebody with a little bit of time and some basic tools, bit the quick 30 second smash and grabs it will definitely work for.

Maybe it was you I heard that from... I swore I remember reading a review or maybe a thread about the combo lock being not as good. Did you post that on here?

As if there's some other place you hang out where you would have heard it....

I have two locking additions for my truck, and have been very happy with both of them.

- Console Vault with both key and code (best part is not everything has to be locked up): https://www.americantrucks.com/e-g-center-console-lock-vault-1517.html

- Rear underseat storage: https://www.americantrucks.com/tuffy-under-rear-seat-lockbox-1517-supercrew-supercab.html

Another vote for a console vault with the key.

I've had a console vault in the past but much prefer the E&G vault. It seems more robust and doesn't take the entire console up. Still have room to drop in stuff on a portion of it that doesn't need to be locked up.

It also has a base plate that goes under the console that bolts to the upper part to make it harder to break into.

That said, I've never had either broken into so I can't speak to the efficacy. But if I had to choose one, it would be the E&G without question.

Another vote for Lock'er Down. Made in San Antonio. Mine is in F-150. Buddy has one in Denali console and rear floor. We are both happy with functionality.

Got a GMC Sierra 1500 this summer and put the Lock Er Down console safe and I really like it. Very solid and super easy to install.
