A "friend" of mine claims to have found one in Smithville, Texas. After typing the name of the spider into Google I read that they are found around Sydney, Australia (hence the name). Have any of you ever heard of one being found in Texas. I would really like to call BS on this person because I believe it is a fabrication.

There have been several posts in the last year with pictures of what looked to me like those Sydney FW monsters. Lawd help us if they've invested Texas!

Someone posted a pic requesting a spider ID the other day...someone mentioned Funnel Web Spider but I don't think that's what it turned out to be.

Edit: Here's the thread https://texags.com/forums/34/topics/3005414

I looked at the other thread and this spider is different. The one in the other thread has 8 legs and this one has 10.

These are the images that were taken by the person in question.

I replied funnel web in the other thread but meant trap door.

Had to google pedipalp. So, is it possible this thing was in Texas or were the pictures stolen?

As far as I know, that's a native spider. Seen several of them in Texas.

Do you mean it is a Sydney Funnel-web spider or it is some other spider that is native to Texas?

that's a mouse spider.

they are not common in Texas, but are here. I have seen one in my day which is the only reason I know what it is.

it is venomous, so yes, kill it with fire.

That is not a funnel web as stated above. It is a genus of trapdoor spider common in some parts of Texas of the genus Mygalomorph. Some people call them by the common name mouse spiders.

I saw the very edge of it at the bottom of my screen and thought it was on my bed. Who needs sleep, anyway?
