Howdy Ags!

Going on an elk hunt next November in southern CO for my first elk hunt. Looking for suggestions on boots. TIA

Would post a picture of tiddies here for your time but I don't know how.

Not cheap, but Lowa boots are the ones I like the best.

I like my Cabelas Meindl Perfekt Hunter. They are insulated and heavy but they did a great job for me last October one Montana when it started snowing on day 2 of a 7 day hunt and never stopped.

Crispi, kenetrek, zamberlan, lowa, scarpa or any of the other Italian boot makers. They've got it figured out and are probably all made in same factory.

I've had two pairs and they were great.

Been rocking Cabelas Meindl western guides the past two years and like them pretty well. Especially for the price I paid.

I've also used Merrell Moabs (great shoe if trying to go lighter and it's warm) and Salomon Quest 4Ds (everyone seems to love them other than me, hated them). My buddy has been using Danner pronghorns and seems to like them if it's not super cold/snowy.

If there's snow, a good leather boot with some so-seal type stuff and gaiters is the best way to avoid wet feet. Whatever you get, put some miles on it prior to the hunt.

What you need is kinda dependent on how you're going to be hunting. You could get by with whatever you have on your feet right now. You might want to drop 4 hundys

I used the Cabela's Meindl Men's Ultralight 400. I bought them a couple years building up supplies for my elk hunt. They covered a lot of miles in Kansas approaching 0, and got fairly cold several days on the elk hunt in Colorado. They performed very well. I will say my cousin and I both had the same boots on the elk hunt. I never had any issues with my feet getting cold, but I will say my cousin's feet were getting pretty cold the couple morning we started in the single digits.

I agree with all these

I'm one of the ones that love my Salomons. I have a pair of the Quest 4Ds and a pair of the X-Ultra Mids and really like both of them, depending on the scenario.

Just did my first elk hunt in October. Got a lot of advice to invest heavy on the boots and break them in properly. I was so thankful for that advice and it make all the difference!

I spent $200+ on Danner boots and then logged 40 miles in them before the trip. Got merino wool socks.

You will not be sorry!

Crispi Nevada Legend...can't recommend them enough. You have a year to plan, so you need to make a point to go try on several pair and see what fits best. If you're going to spend good money on boots, you owe it to yourself to make sure they fit right.

I got the Danner Vitals for my elk hunt last year. Wanted something a little lighter since 99.9% of my hunting is in Texas, and I wanted a boot I could wear more often.

I was a bit concerned about the cold, but they did great with different weights of wool socks. The coldest it got was about 5 degrees, but my feet were toasty with heavy weight wool socks. With lightweight socks they're comfortable walking through TX brush at 100 degrees as well.

Covered about 60 miles on the 10 day hunt, and they never caused any problems.

I've had Vasque before but switched over to Oboz. You may take a look. I like them a lot.

I bought Irish Setters when I went a few years ago. They are warm and have great support. I wear them every time I hunt and they are still going strong. Irish Setters

I've worn out a few different ones. If I find some my feets like I tend to work in them too much post hunting season...so I usually get two seasons out of a pair.

Right now I'm on Crispi Idaho's and I'm eager to see how they hold up because my feet really like them.

I'd encourage you to try on lots of stuff. Lots of places offer free returns for size exchange.

I just ordered the un-insulated version of these for a January mule deer hunt and hopeful Wyoming elk hunt next year. Can't wait to try them out.

I used the Salomon Quest 4D's on my first elk hunt this year and one of the few things that went well for me on my hunt was my feet/boots.

I know some people here like to boycott REI but with their return policy they are a good option to try out boots and return something else if they don't fit your feet just right. I initially bought a pair of La Sportiva Nucleo's. Some people loved them, they were super light and I really wanted to like them. Even went on an Antelope hunt with them. But after nine months they were still hurting my feet in certain spots. REI took them back no problem (despite the antelope blood on them) and I bought a pair of the Salomon's and haven't looked back.

These were life changing for me. Best money I ever spent when it comes to elk hunting.
