Interested in picking one of these up if the price is right. Anyone have any feedback on using this rifle as a hog sticker or for deer? Thanks!

Interested in a .308 and thought it would be a cool one to grab. Been using .223 AR-15, but want something bigger.

Last deer that I shot a couple years ago was with a M1A. Did the job just fine, it didn't go more than 50 yards before dropping. So it's more than fine as a deer round, plus the semi auto nature of it makes it a good option should you come across a pack of hogs.

I will say it's not the most accurate gun. I have just the base model from Springfield Armory and it groups about 1.5-2 inches at 100 yards and I've shot different types of ammo through it.

Still plenty accurate to take a deer or hog at 100-200 yards out of a stand, but I wouldn't feel comfortable trying something past 200 with it. I'm sure the match model from Springfield is better and possibly M1As from other manufacturers, but my base model is just average in the accuracy dept.

My old Springfield NM (pre-anti-gun Springfield) and claimed hogs and a red stag bull.
Fulton Armory makes the best M1A's though.

Killed my first 5 deer with M1A with government 4.5 x 14 scope. Did great at 100 to 150 yards.

But as I aged and my back started having problems I found that package was a little heavy. Moved to a Browning 25-06 a while back.
We may not always get what we want. We may not always get what we need. Just so we don't get what we deserve.

I hunted with a M1A for 10 years. No issue killing TX deer out to 250 yards with it. What I will say is the rifle is heavy and long. Not the best choice for spot and stalk and can be awkward getting it out a window in a box blind. Hard to imagine Marines fighting with a M14 in the jungles of Vietnam.

My M1A was a custom build from the Dallas National Guard Armory so it was more accurate than a base model

Hunted with a Garand before. It and I were capable of 2.5" groups at 100 using the iron peep. 30/06 150 grain soft point would do the job on anything in North America, and without the felt recoil due to the action.

I use my garands on hogs and deer, really enjoy popping hogs with my M1D's.

Never had the desire to own an M1A. This summer I shot a buds BM59. Hunted down an all matching kit with perfect finish. Got a barrel and when I find a donor garand action it's all going to Shuffs. It will be a fun pig wacker.

Waiting on my all WRA Mini-G to come back right now. So, do it OP.

Thanks for yalls responses! Sounds like those could be good options for popping hogs. After doing some more research, seems like a Ruger Mini 30 could be a good weapon of choice as well, as it packs and punch but is lighter.

If you are going to do a Mini30, just buy an AK. Better gun in so many ways.
