BLR in 308. Have had one for a long time. Lever action, but (I think) shoots more like a bolt action. Very accurate, the 308 gives you range if you want to put a scope on it, but the 308 is very destructive on pigs thru iron sites at short range. My 2 cents....

Anyone have a .300 savage lever gun? My dad has my grandfathers old savage need to get it out

I've got a 50's era Winchester iand a 70's era Marlin both in .30-.30. The Marlin i bought as a truck gun for pigs and it's been effective. Might do one up with a scope next for kicks.

Up next is a .45LC to go with my Vaqueros

For those looking I think Dury's in San Antonio still has their truckload sale in Winchester and Browning

Edit - can't find the sale posted online

I bought a Henry .45LC to go with my Vaquero. It's fun times. Almost no recoil at all.

If one decided to go pistol caliber - say 357 or 45 LC - and you didn't want to go Henry, what would you choose?

Rossi makes fun pistol caliber carbines. My dad has one in 44 mag that I love. It's probably my favorite to shoot out of his firearm collection.

I've had the Marlin 1894 in 357/38 for over 20 years. Been a good rifle. It shoots any brass case ammo I feed it. 357 will pop a hog. Shoot 38's when I'm plinking around. I like it.

Winchester 1873 or Uberti 1873, and I'd take those over a Henry all day and twice on Sundays.

Not to doubt your recommendations but is there any issue shooting Modern magnum ammo in the 1873 vs 1892?

Only experience I have lever gun is with an early Winchester 1886 in 45-70 that I might be lucky enough to inherit one day. Was recommended to watch the pressures for that gun due to the age.

In a new manufacture rifle, absolutely none at all.

In an orginal rifle, don't do it.

How bad of a kick we talking?

You're just going to get tired of shooting it after only a few times.
