Typical OB response, Cabelas Alaknak. In all seriousness I got a really good deal on a like new used one off criagslist last year and it's been great. Another response would be Kodiak Canvas. I looked pretty close at those before I found that alaknak. Again outside your budget by $100ish.

Guess it depends on your use too. Maybe check out some old mil surplus tents.

Check out Core Equipment 12 person. Got one for my family reunion campout. Costco was carrying them this summer. Think I paid $189

We got the REI Kingdom 6 and love it for car camping. It has an option "garage" attachment.

We got the same for family camp outs and have been very happy.

This one has fantastic reviews but I would likely go with the 8 person.

Good advice

not at all. I just like the size of a bigger tent. At most 2 adults and 1-2 kiddos, with gear

I went with the REI Kingdom 8

It was on clearance and had free shipping, I could not pass it up.

Double tent cot for you and maybe a friend. Tarps for the kiddos. It builds character.

I see you already purchased a tent, but I'll go ahead and give my rec for anyone else that is interested...

I was going to +1 the Kodiak Canvas tents. I have the 10x14 size (8 person) and it is great. I can set it up by myself in 15 minutes or so. I have spent a whole week in it on 3 separate hunts - 1 with 2 adults, 1 alone, and 1 with 4 adults - all with cots. it has weathered at least 1 rain event on each of those hunts and has not leaked.

I know it is over the OP's budget by a little bit, but you can find it cheaper and Cabela's usually has a sale at least once per year. When I bought mine it was marked down to $450.
