Yea! John Wayne never used a scope!!
Then again John Wayne NEVER used a .30-.30.........but hey....I never saw him miss with his lever action!

I was unaware I would be ostracized by the OB for having a scope on my Marlin. Learn new things everyday.

I scout mounted mine with a pistol scope.

This is the OB - rest assured that no matter what you are doing, you are doing it wrong.

I did not read the entire thread/pissing contest, but for all of the purists out there, I used this:

https://www.opticsplanet.com/egw-marlin-picatinny-rail-scope-mount-2310-0-moa.html

And I put some low scope rings on it that allow the scope to just clear the hammer.

There you go. A f-ing rail on a saddle gun. KMA. SMD. EAD. And I hope someone puts macaroni in your chili.

It works very well and I am very happy. I wanted the rail so I could have a little more control on where it was mounted on the gun.

You can be ostracized for this, OP, but thats OK. There is nothing wrong with putting superior technology on YOUR gun with YOUR money. Don't mind the iron sight folks, they will literally yell at a contrail in an otherwise clear blue sky.

I have the same, and will use it to mount my red dot when I get around to it.

And what's wrong with chili-mac?

I inherited a lever rifle from my FIL a couple years ago and it's got a scope with the see through rings

Granted its a Browning BLR in 308. How many of y'all would shoot your 308 with a scope? Should I pull the scope off of this saddle gun?

Post a pic of your f-ing rail on a saddle gun.

Seriously. Post a pic.

A .308 is a little different deal!
A 30-30 is just a hair faster than a Wrist/Rocket!
Even though it's a lever gun, I'd lean toward leaving the scope!

This isn't the best but it's the best I can do real quick. I can get more if you need more detail. It's just a short rail. You can't really see it. I think the driving force behind it was the availability of it plus the rings that I wanted to be low, but not interfere with the hammer, or sights. I can't exactly recall. Anyway, it did what I wanted and I KNOW few would do such a thing.

I had a different mount on it, but with that and the rings for it, the scope sat too high to be comfortable shooting.

So you wouldn't be comfortable shooting with the pre-mounted scopes on the Marlin at Academy?

Had a Montgomery-Wards branded 30-30 (probably a Marlin) in highschool. Scope was mounted on see through rings so iron sights were usable for closer shots. Scope was a 4-10x variable. Got the job done plenty of times.

Marlin puts scopes on .30-30s

And you need to be spending 10x more to do it right...
