I'm not that good of a shooter so I don't need an expensive ultra-accurate rifle.

Including glass, I'm not looking to spend more than $750.

Right now, I'm leaning towards the Weatherby Vanguard S2. The CZ 527 interests me, too, but it's going to stretch my budget a little bit.

My hunting rifle is a Savage. It shoots perfectly fine but I want to try something different for my next rifle.

Thoughts?

Any interest in a Remington 700 SPS Tactical in 223? I have one thats a good shooter collecting dust. I'd swap it for optics money on other concerns.

For whatever odd reason, I just don't like Remingtons.

You're off to a good start then.

Good luck!

I continue to be impressed by the Ruger American results. For a budget rifle, they deliver.

Add some good glass, still meet your budget.

You won't go wrong with the Weatherby, and a .223 bolt is hell for fun to shoot. I picked up an older Win 70 several years back in .223 and it is pure fun to shoot. No recoil, you can reach out to some respectable ranges, and it doesn't break the bank. Get the rifle, get a decent or better scope (I'm a Leupold guy, have to be the only one left on the board these days) and put some rounds through it.

I'd go with the Weatherby.

Essentially the Howa 1500 and the Weatherby vanguard rifles are the same guns.

interesting, always thought the howa mini action was a different beast from the vanguards but guess not

Quite sure the mini-action is still exclusive to Howa offerings.

Did some googling and this rifle piques my interest.

Thanks for the recommendation!

Well dang, a little googling and i see that brownells has howa mini barreled actions available, and stockys has laminate and walnut stocks for them. Now i can't help thinking that my boys need matching grendels for when they outgrow their red riders, cricketts, and 10-22s (that they haven't grown into yet...) kids are expensive!

Someone had a mossberg mvp in .223 that I got to shoot coons with recently. I was shocked by how much I liked that gun.
