I've had all kinds of trouble with my Pitt Boss. It's going back.

I need one that is waterproof that can be exposed to the rain.

I'm thinking about Camp Chef. Is it water proof, eg pellet protection, control unit protection, etc?

I don't seem to have these problems with my stick burner.

I would not use any plug in pellet smoker in the rain.

If it is wet or raining I either pull it under the patio cover or use the stick burner.

No, you just have all kinds of other issues.

No thanks. Pellet smokers are the bomb.

I agree. I have a Camp Chef, and the pellets would probably be OK if it rained, but I would not risk the electrics out in the open during rain. Also, water could leak into the smoking box and potentially cause problems. That goes for pretty much any brand IMO. I have one of those large, pop up patio umbrellas over it for the time being until I put a real cover on my patio. Keeps any rain out in that event, plus keeps me in the shade when it's sunny and hot.

Regardless of whether it's used in the rain, and yeah you're probably right, I want one that can be exposed to the rain without the pellets getting wet, control unit exposure, etc...

If it happens to not be covered during a rainstorm, I don't want $20 worth of pellets being ruined.

If you need something while it is being used, I'm sure you could fashion something to cover the pellet box/electrics if needed. Something as simple as a metal or even plastic plate or partial box to fit.

If you are talking about weatherproofing only during storage and not during actual use, then there are several covers available for smokers. I have one for my smoker that works great. Smoker cover.

I run my mak grills 2 star general in the rain with no issues at all. The only time I've ever had a single problem is when I left it outside during 50" of driving Harvey rain and moisture got into the pellets in the auger and turned them into mush that clogged it up. Pretty sure that's on me though...

I'd put that one on Harvey. He was kind of an *******.

I've run my blaz'n grill works smoker in the rain, sleet, and snow without any problems. Mine has a gasket under the pellet hopper lid that does an excellent job of keeping the moisture out.

I'm a BGE guy mainly, but have a Green Mountain Daniel Boone for times when I want to set it and forget it; mostly on the occasional weekday cook. The wifi works flawlessly and it'll give me a great taste when I don't feel like putting in a lot of effort. For a little bit more of a sear, I bought one of their old "holed" heat shields.

I don't operate it in the rain, but it stays well-sheltered with their grill cover.

I don't operate my rec tec in the rain. Pellet grills have a mother board/control board that shouldn't get wet. I just pull it under the porch if there's a chance of rain.

Used mine to make some jerky the other day in light rain. Rained the entire 4 hours or so.

No issue. Camp chef woodwind.

I did have it plugged in, inside though. Controller is the only issue then

Have you ever left it uncovered in heavy rain while not in use? If so, are the pellets protected? Does the inside cooking area get wet?

I also have a Camp Chef WW. I'm a big fan. I leave mine out full time. I do have the cover that it comes with and haven't had any issues. If I have have a lot of pellets left in the hopper, I do try and empty it between uses, but when I've forgotten, they are still fine.

I pulled the trigger on a Camp Chef. I have a 90 day return, so I'll get to find out just how rain resistant it is.

Thanks for all the feedback.
