Saw this posted by a friend. Mountain Lion attacked a dog between Seguin & Stockdale off 123.
There was also a video posted from a security camera that shows the cat... can't figure out how to post that yet. The owner of the dog is supposedly working with TPWD as its been 30 years since the last sighting in Wilson County.

I've seen video shot by a friend in Belmont (about 30 miles north) of a mountain lion on a thermal scope.
My brother (posted about it here before) also claims to have seen a lion around Belmont through a night vision scope.

The track & video (will work on that) are clearly a cat. The track in the pic below is bigger than a bobcat for sure. The dog bite I thought would have been worse, but I have no experience. Highly plausible a mountain lion could wander into that area up from South Texas. Anyone from the area hear anything?

I know this area well...it's not a mountain lion. I have seen some of the biggest bobcats ever from Seguin down to Beeville area. That would be my guess if they have video of a cat attack.

Belmont is between Seguin and Gonzales, but I'm not sure that you meant north of you.

That track is way bigger than the bobcat tracks I have seen. At least double the size.
Not doubting you know the area at all though.

Hopefully the dog recovers fully. I'm very interested to see the video...

But to the credit of this story...I have seen many Cougars around Kosciusko in my time!

To clarify:
The tracks & alleged attack were off 123 between Stockdale & Seguin.

I personally have seen a video from a friend shot from a thermal scope that showed a Mountain Lion. He said it was from the Belmont area. Roughly 30 miles NNE from Stockdale. (Due north is Seguin) No way to prove the video was actually from Belmont, but hey... as our SCOTUS selection has shown, facts & evidence don't matter!

Thermal is not going to give you the best picture to change peoples minds...but I would like to see it as well. Most of these sightings are false, but I want them to be true as much as anyone else.

That video is on my old phone, but I'll try to upload it this weekend. You can clearly see the long tail in it.
I am a big time skeptic on Mt. Lion sightings in general, btw.

Our place is south of there and this is the cat we saw a few years ago. Decided it was just a large bobcat after we saw a litter a few months later.

Edit to add for context: The mesquite limb it is on is about 4-6 feet off the ground and it is watching the feeder for breakfast.

That's the response I was looking for! Very hard to tell anything from the video.
The guy is getting TPWD involved so hopefully we get a good answer.

Only things I could make out:

It has a longer tail
It's tail appeared to sway back and forth (to me like a dog)

That's the video my friend took. He is an excellent hunter, not a ton of BS in him when it comes to stuff like this. I believe he took the video where he said he did.

The only thing I could say is that it is VERY hard to determine the size of the cat from the video. It's clearly not a dog or a bobcat though.

All my buddies in the area are laughing at this story. They have not told me why yet. Can you give last name of the guy?

I don't know the guy making the claim personally but he is a friend of a friend so I won't go there.

I am in the area (Leesville) and will ask around if anyone has seen tracks or signs.

Lots of rain recently in that area. This makes tracks sink in a look larger than what they really are. My lab (90lbs) went out in our yard and his tracks looked like a Great Dane had been there.

I hunt Leesville a lot. Know the area from 100 miles north of Seguin to 100 miles south of it. Hunt with lots of folks all over that area and never a sighting. I don't like shooting bobcats to prove how big they are, I like em. But my bet is bobcat.

I can't say for sure, but just based off of body proportions this looks a lot like a housecat to me...

This video is completely worthless for ID purposes. Something that walks on four legs is walking.
