I have a Bushnell Trophy that is OK - good in daylight, meh at night. Looking for something that isn't horribly expensive but works decent to add so I have pictures from a different direction at my feeder as well as getting better pictures at night.

Amazon has a brand called Campark that gets pretty solid reviews and the pictures posted by buyers seem to be pretty solid. Ever heard of it? Or are there other brands to look at? Want to keep it in the $75 and under range, I don't need a super high dollar camera.

Don't buy a knock off game camera, including Wildgame Innovations.

Keep an eyes out on camofire. They have had some sales that put a few stealth cams in your price range. A little more on a moultrie or browning would also be a wise investment. In my opinion, $100-150 is the area you want to be in for Good cameras. Anything above that is generally overpriced (less cell models or a few exceptions) and below is usually crappy.

Is this the one you are referring to? My buddies (twins) decided to get new cameras and they coincidentally got the "same" one.......I say "same" because they looked & functioned exactly the same, they were just different brands. That being said, all I can tell you is they were both Chinese named brands, but cant remember the names of them off the top of my head. from what I have seen and heard from them they would recommend.

I bought a Bushnell 12 MP Trophy Cam in April and put it to work immediately. It worked great (day and night) for three months - then crapped out, total malfunction. Sent it back to Bushnell for repair/replacement. in the interim, I got antsy and bought a Stealth Cam 14MP 45NG and put it out at my feeder. The frigging thing did not work worth a crap - it was taking 25 pictures in a seven day period with only one or two at night - at the same exact location where my Bushnell had been taking 100+.. I'm hearing impaired, so I e-mailed Stealth Cam about the worthless piece of junk after a month of trying to make it work. Stealth Cam did not bother to answer my E-mail.Fortunately, I had bought the Stealth Cam thru Amazon. I contacted them and was given a full refund. In the meantime, Bushnell sent me a new-in-the-box replacement camera - which in it's first week of operation produced 95 beautiful pictures (day and night). Infer what you like from my recent game cam adventures. Stealth Cam will never see another penny of my money. The jury is still out on Bushnell #2

Got a pair of these about 3 years ago, very happy with their performance. If/when they crap out on me, I'll replace with the same thing.

Got a cheap-o wildgame from Academy 3 yrs ago - still going strong. I guess I hit the game cam lottery cuz y'all seem to hate em.

screw bushnell. i bought a trophy cam a few years ago. it malfunctioned under the warranty. i shipped it to them on my dime which is what you have to do. only to get it back in the mail with a not that said no warranty coverage and no malfunction found.

put new batteries in it. turned on fine. worked for a day and then screwed up again.

I have one Stealth Cam 45NG. One, really two, my First and Last. It Sucks at night. Grainy pictures and lots of cloudy/foggy pictures. I also have a few Moultries and Love them. i40, i50, etc.. damn good pictures. Bought the last i40 on sale at Bass Pro for $99.

Anyone have one that sends email and text notifications?

My buddy has a spypoint (i think) that does that. he hunts way out in west texas and cant make it very often to pull cards. he can turn it on and off during the day to preserve battery life and everything operates through his phone. other than being kind of expensive for the service I dont think he has any complaints.

I'm about to close on some rural acreage in Northern Nevada and I'm interested in getting some game cameras. I probably won't be able to make it out to the property more than once a year but I would like to know what wildlife is present.

Searching the Outdoors Board, I came across a few relevant threads.

• The OB FAQ needs to have a Game Camera / Trailcam thread added.

• The 2018 Western States Draw thread had a post about game cams in Nevada. I did some research and found that the restrictions do not apply to private land so I'm good there.

I've been out to the property and noticed several well trafficked animal trails. The area does have a lot of wild horses but I'm not sure if they ever make it up to my property. I've also noticed a small amount of beer cans that undoubtedly were left by High School kids or similar who went out there to drink.

So here's what I'm wondering about:

• Power - I assume game cams are battery powered, are there solar powered game cam setups?
• Remote Transmission Capability - I've read about cameras that transmit. Does anybody have personal experience with those? What kind of connections do they have? WiFi or 4G?
• Storage Capacity - It looks like based on the image quality and frequency, it sounds like people are getting hundreds to thousands of images stored to an SD memory card?
• Temperature - Over on the 2018 Trailcam Pic Thread, I saw some Bushnell pix that had a readout of the temperature on the picture. Does anybody have any experience with game cams in extreme temperatures - either high or low temps - especially below freezing.
• Thermal Imaging / Night Pictures - I assume there are cameras that trigger off of movement, or heat. How hard do you go on trying to get pictures at night? Are they very good quality or am I just looking at some sort of grainy green screen pix at night.
• Positioning - I can see some very well worn animal trails on the property but there are no water sources. Should I just setup a camera or two along one of the prominent trails? Any good advice about where to place the cameras would be appreciated.

I run lithium batts in all my cams for max life. Never thought about a solar setup but I'm sure it's possible.

I've used 32gb SD cards in NM under extreme high and low temps. A 32 card will hold thousands of pics.. maybe 10K..

All my cams are PIR and night pics are everywhere from poor to great. Depends on quality of cam.

Set cams on trails for sure. If you can set up an artificial water source or mineral lick/feed source, even better.

Very Important - Face cam pointing North (1st preference) or South. E or W orientation will result in "washed out" or unintelligible pics.

MAKE SURE that you cut all brush, limbs, vegetation near the cam so you don't get a thousand pics of that stuff blowing in the wind. Also pay attn to prevailing winds to mitigate.

Also, I don't know how private land tags work in NV (looking in to that now) but I will bury the HS kids and their beer cans deep with no witnesses if you let me hunt there.

I have a couple of the Covert Blackhawk that sends the pics to my cell phone. It is awesome and the app where I get the pics is really easy to use. I can also take real-time pics as well. I think the monthly cost is $10/month per camera but because I have 2 cameras on the same plan I pay $15/month. It's the only way to go assuming that the property has cell phone coverage. The coverage where mine are is not good. I am unable to have a phone call where the cameras are located but they do transmit the pics to me.

I can also confirm that the Lithium batteries do last longer than the regular Entergizer/Duracell batteries.

When the camera arrives it comes with a SIM card. I received an AT&T SIM card but I don't recall if I had to request AT&T or if that is just what they send with all new cameras. I do remember it was fairly straight-forward to set up and each month I pay the subscription to Covert (not AT&T). I loved it when I was living overseas. I would be sitting in my office in Abu Dhabi watching the deer back and hogs back in Texas and it only cost me $15/month for the privilege and that was the fee for both cameras. Having the 2 cameras also provided me with a bit of security that I had at least a sense of what was going on back home.

This one is AT&T and it looks like it should cost about $6/month for 1,000 pictures. I can't imagine I'd need more than that. I'll be visiting my property in ten days so I should get the camera setup then. I also just found out that I've got a business trip to the USA scheduled for February so I'll have a chance to make any adjustments then.

Got the camera setup today. One cool feature I didn't know before I ordered the Code Black LTE camera is that it has the ability to be controlled remotely via an app on your mobile phone.

There were lots of configurable options regarding the number of pictures to take, when to take them and how many to transmit. I'm still stoked that I can force the camera to take a picture from my mobile phone.

LEJ - thanks for all the advice.

The Lithium batteries should last for a year and the advice about camera orientation and clearing out the brush was great.

We did have a major wind storm with gusts above 60 mph on Dec. 14th. That generated about 90 pictures of nothing.

I've got a work trip to the SF Bay Area scheduled for February so I'll take that opportunity to make some adjustments on the cameras. After that, my next planned trip to the USA is to Miami in August so I'll see how I go with my adjustments and figure out if I want to make a side trip then.

So far, I'm really happy with the results from my Covert Wireless trail cam. I've got a second trail cam setup at a different location but I'll have to download those pics manually when I'm there in February.
