I would get a rifle from Hill Country Rifles

Matt might be as nice as they come, but I don't understand how HCR sells any rifles at those price tags.

Lets take this rifle, as an example:

https://www.hillcountryrifles.com/product/harvester-tactical-in-6-5-creedmoor/

Factory Rem 700 action with a factory Rem 700 barrel, for $2,999.

WHAT THE FURK

There is no way on God's green earth that a trigger job, bedding, cerakote, and their stock is a $2500 upgrade. Here is the barreled action they are likely using:

https://www.eurooptic.com/Remington-700-SPS-Barreled-Action-65-Creedmoor-22-86503.aspx

But that gun is marked sold. Like many of them are. I just don't get it. I suppose a paint job and a test target is enough to sucker guys into buying a "custom rifle". That gun is far, far from custom.

And yes - if Matt or any of the Aggies at HCR lurk or post here, I'd welcome some open discussion on your prices and how you figure a factory action and factory barrel make a three thousand dollar gun.

Yes to a beautiful wood stock.

I don't understand everyone's obsession with Tikka rifles. They feel cheap as **** to me. There was another thread about a mid eighties Rem 700 BDL. Those are miles better than a Tikka.

My parents are retiring, and building a house on family land in east Texas to be closer to my moms side of the family, and enjoy a more simpler life.

My Uncle and I bench shoot long range (800 yd right now) together at least one weekend a month, as well as deer/pig hunt the 600 acres. He shoots a .270, and I shoot a 6.5 Grendel build that eyeguy hooked me up with.

My dad has not been much of a shooter/hunter. However, he's expressed a lot of interest over the last few weeks, and I'm excited to get to get to share something that I love doing, with him, now that he has more time to dedicate to it.

I say all of this to say, I want to get my dad a badass bolt gun setup that selfishly, both he and I can enjoy as he learns to love shooting longer distance at steel and shooting some deer/pigs within 200yds.

I want his "do all" go-to bolt gun gift from me to be a 6.5 Creedmore. But, I don't want this to be a cookie cutter looking, all black synthetic furniture, stock rifle from Academy. I want to get him a "custom" bolt gun with all the whistles that will be a shooter. Cool barrel/action fluting, patterned walnut stock or badass patterned cerakote synthetic stock, etc. I want this gun to be a great shooter, but I want it to also stand out and be one he loves to show off.

I've checked out accurate ordinance, surgeon, West Texas ordinance... anyone have other recommendations for some great looking and shooting bolt guns? Sparing no expense.

TIA!

My man, you're talking my language.

If you want his gun to be a show stopper, here's your guy. My dad and I had our 7mm rem's made here and everywhere we go people say "DAMN! What is that?!" And it will be incredibly accurate. My gun shoots .17 moa.
