Found this in an old barn west of San Antonio. Original property is going to date from the 1840 to 50's but I don't have my reference to be certain. I know what it is but not exactly what kind. It's all iron as far as I can see and not broken. Not sure is it's complete or not. Thoughts ??

It looks like it maybe could be a Model 1855 socket bayonet or the model 1873 trapdoor as mentioned earlier. I don't know how to tell the difference but it looks like the locking ring is missing. The blade has a very triangular and the flutes are deep. It's long and it comes to a relatively thin point. It looks like it would create a rather nasty wound.
