Is there a consensus on best tonneau/truck bed cover?

For the first time in five pick up trucks I'm interested in a tonneau roll top or folding bed cover. Which brand/model is considered the best? I'm looking for reliability, waterproofness, and durability. I don't want an electric model, FWIW.

Retrax? Gatortrax? Pace? Other?

Thanks, OB

Yeah, but they are even more Auto Board....

Also, asking for consensus here is like asking for consensus in Congress....

I'm a couple of weeks away from buying the BakFlip MX4 folding cover.

Gets good reviews for durability and water proofing and is very low profile, which I like.

ETA there's several threads about tonneau covers on the auto board, as BOM says.

Just bought the Bakflip MX4. Good reviews. Haven't installed it yet.

I am leaning towards the MX4 as well.

I have the BAK Revolver X2 and have really enjoyed it. Rolls up easily, secures well enough to keep out the opportunistic thief, keeps the gear in my bed clean and dry.

It was my first bed cover and I was not sure how well I'd like it, but after several months I'm not sure I'd go without one in the future.

Current and previous truck both have a BakFlip and a BedRug

Have had the BAK Revolver X2 for two years and really like it. Secure, dry and easy to get out of your way - rolls up on top, so no space taken in bed. Comes in X2 or X4 now which has an option of a new matte black finish.

Bought an MX4 off of amazon about a two weeks ago. Got it cheaper there then from their site. Installed in about 45 minutes. Happy with it so far, except one of the clips on the strap broke. Hopefully they will send another shortly.

Bakflip MX4 here, no complaints except for they were missing a bolt in the kit.

Mx4 owner. Much improved over their previous models. Had a g2 on my last truck that was about 97% waterproof and heavy as hell. Mx4 seems to be 99.5% waterproof and very light.

I had my windows tinted a couple weeks back, and the guy there said the Bak stuff is really good. He also said he had been selling a bunch of Lomax tri folds. They had a display there and they looked sharp. Also had the ability to take all the way off if need be. I think he wanted $900 installed.

I have a Bak Revolver X4 and really like everything it has to offer. If they could just figure out how to ship me one that is cut to fit my truck properly (I'm on my third try right now), it would be the perfect cover for me.

Damn, I just started another thread on this. Any opinions on the retractable vs, folding? Looking for waterproof and secure.

I went with the folding based on some friends having the Retrax and Roll-n-Lock. After a while they had problems with them and the rollers not wanting to roll as easy due to stuff building up in the rollers. That and the price was about $500 cheaper for the MX4.

Retractable makes 25% of your bed unusable

Look for the autoboard hook up and get the MX4 delivered to your house for <$800. Good cover, 2 years in and mines been great.

I just bought a new ford and had the dealer install a Roll-n-Lock with a vinyl cover. Didnt think I would like it, but it has really grown on me.

I've had Bak-Flips on last two trucks. Very happy (hence buying again). Had a roll up type previously. It was functional and kept bed dry but not as strong/durable as the Bak-Flip. Also lost some of the bed because of the roll up storage. This isn't the case with Bak-Flip where you have access to full bed. All three were easy to install

Is The back flip popular for the value or quality? I'm spending company money and want to find the best available. Has anyone had an 'Undercover'?

Diamond back truck covers seem intriguing. I don't own one, but I've seen a couple and they look solid.

I've had a Diamondback for about 3 months now in my Tundra. It's awesome and rugged- looking. Got the standard version and it checks all the boxes. It's twice as much as a MX4 but it would take some serious tools to break in.

Only issue would be if you need to use your bed often for tall loads. It's simple enough to take down and you can load on top, but won't be for everyone. You can YouTube videos.

I had a Bakflip VP on my Ford for a few years. Would buy again, but the diamondback just looked too awesome.

Had both for me. I liked the way it was built and how it looked on the trucks that I saw. The other option for those wanting it but wanting to save a little is the Gator cover. I believe they are made by Bak and are basically the same. Just a little cheaper on the pricing.

I bought the lomax and really like it. Easy to take off if you need to use your bed. When you decide, call truck alterations and make an offer. Got mine for $675 free shipping.

Is the mx4 or revolver strong enough for a person or two to stand on?

I have an Undercover Elite on my F150. I haven't owned any of the others but me, my brother's, and Dad have been using them for years with no issues. I like them because they seemed to be more water resistant than most of the others.

I just bought a Bakflip G2 and am seriously impressed with their customer service. The front mounting hole on the cover was drilled wrong and didn't line up with the mounting rails. A quick phone call and an email to them and they are sending a complete new cover on Thursday.

Way too many trade offs in this deal!

The close call decision is going to the new revolver. Install is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Thanks for the help!

I bought a BakFlip MX4 from truckalterations.com using the TexAgs hookup from the automotive board. If anyone is interested, send an email to sales@truckalterations.com. Luke will hook you up.

I ordered my BakFlip on Wednesday and probably paid slightly above dealer cost with free shipping. Insane deal. It arrived today and I had it installed in 30 minutes. It's great.
