What time would I need to get to Snows to get some food? Is it still available around 11 or is it gone by then normally?

I am assuming you mean Saturday morning? We usually get there by about 9:00AM to get a full selection. You could risk it later, on tu-OU weekend etc, as more people were out of town and less likely to be competition. On the days when we arrived at 8:30AM, that seemed to be overkill, but we never worried those days about how long the line would be, etc.

Seems to me that getting in line at 11AM, would mean you would only get to select from maybe 30% of the menu. I would imagine you wouldn't eat until 11:45 or noon. Of course, I am guessing, as I have never gone and not been in line by 9:00AM.

Yes on Saturdays. I just realized today that Snows is in the same town my dog is getting trained in. So i figured the next time I go down to work with her in the field would be a great time for some BBQ. We normally work with her from 10-11 so was hoping 11 would work.

Best way to do it? Call in on Friday, tell them what you want to order and what time you want to pick up. They'll have it cut and wrapped for you.

Your best bet would be to go before training.

Edit: Forgot about calling ahead. He's right on that.

I'm not saying you would be out of luck, I just can't say for sure, as I have only been 3 or 4 times and we always made a morning of it. Maybe you would get lucky dropping in. I have also seen them drop off a busload of Japanese tourists at 10AM and fill the line to capacity.

THIS!!!

Thanks, BTW. I didn't know they would do so. I need to add this little detour on my way to Aggie baseball home games.

When you do get there, don't go inside. All to-go orders are handled at the pits. Go see Larissa and she'll take care of it!

Will do Thanks! How is the meat? I have read and heard great things.

Yeah calling ahead and ordering to go is a much better option. They might have a little left at 11 if it's a slower weekend, but not likely.

How is it? I got #1 on Texas Monthly's list for a reason.

Good people too, check the pits out if you want and talk with Miss Tootsie, Kerry, or Clay as they are all friendly and will chat if they have a minute.

Without a doubt, 100% order the pork steak. Thank me later.

all is good there. The briskets really good slightly different than you'll find it other places.

Make sure to say hi to Clay, Kerry, and Tootsie.

Is there really any food worth waiting in that long of a line for?

Went back in the summer. Got in line at 8:30. We were in the low 120's I think in line. Got food about 10:45. They were out of chicken well before we got on the porch. And yeah get the pork roast. It's fantastic. I thought it was better than the brisket. And the brisket is damn good.

I did this back in February, on a balmy ~70F Saturday. Left College Station around 8am, got there around 10:30, and got food a few minutes before noon. There were about a dozen people behind me that got food, so I just barely got in.

What time should we be there if we were to go on the weekend of the Clemson game?

What backwoods, scenic route did you take? I live near Caldwell and its about 30 minutes to Lexington for me, and CS is only 30 minutes in the other direction so it shouldve taken you around an hour total.....not 2.5.

Fall during college football season is one of their busiest times, if you want to be guaranteed they'll have everything on the menu available, you probably need to be in line before 9:00. Just go into it realizing you are likely going to be having bbq for breakfast, or brunch at best. Unless you want to stash it in a cooler and bring it back, but bbq is definitely better when its freshly sliced.

And these threads always spawn the "nothing is worth waiting that long in line comment". Look, you have to treat it like tailgating with a payoff of really amazing bbq at the end. Go with some friends/family, take chairs, beer, dominoes, whatever and have a good time. If you just stand around like a bump on a log by yourself for an hour and a half moving through the line, then yeah it probably isnt as great of an experience.

Lastly, go check out the food and spirits board, we have a pretty lengthy thread on the TX Monthly top 50 bbq list and you can find lots of good information, opinions, and more on all the places if you read through it.

It's not worth it. Don't waste your time. Try somewhere else.

When you call ahead is there a separate line or do you pick it up at the same place?

That's pretty much how I feel about it too. I'm sure the BBQ here and at Franklin is damn tasty and worth the wait for some, and I really would like to try both places. But I've had excellent BBQ that I thought could not possibly be any tastier, and there's no way in hell I would wait hours in a line to try it.

So are there really deckheads that call in, pick it up and sit down and eat it right in front of everybody waiting in line?

I haven't done it at Snows, but I have ordered ahead of time at Franklin's several times. They do have some picnic tables at the pre-order pickup area. I've never eaten there as I tend to pick up their BBQ in August and my sister's place is just a few minutes away.

You can also order online. I would pick it up "to go", myself.
