So working in the yard and this thing was under a stone I picked up. Sucker stung me on the finger tip! Dear Lord it hurt. Then my friend says that thing was on YouTube. I took the insect challenge.

Probably more than 30 years ago we went to our little place in Knippa (far too small to be considered a ranch on TexAgs) and my brother and I saw one dragging a tarantula in the tractor shed. We got close to get a good look with the incorrect assumption that the tarantula was dragging the wasp. We got quite a shock when the wasp let go of the tarantula he had been dragging and took flight. Dad thought we were dumbasses when he saw us booking it our of there.

Pretty cool bugs they are.

It's a damn shame what happens to those tarantulas. Straight out of a horror movie.

closest I've been is a velvet ant. Got stung on my shoulder blade while working on my truck. That was an intense burning/searing pain

Makes me feel better about red paper wasp stings... I wasn't sure if I'm just a wimp or those stings are just brutal. Looks to be the latter.

Anyone ever been tagged by a cicada killer? Those things have a respectable stinger.

Had a tarantula fall out of a tree about 5 feet in front of me on a run last week. Luckily there was no one around to hear me scream like a girl.

I saw that it was still laying on the ground twitching on my return leg, so I stopped to grab a pic. Poor basterd.

No but I had to walk in a swarming melee of them once to retrieve a game cam. I felt like Hannibal when he had to stand stoic and fearless among the feral pigs so they wouldn't sense fear and attack

The only time I've ever heard my son curse was when one of these flew him.

I get tagged by a scorpion about once every few months at our poco rancho in Burleson County. Last time I was picking up some rocks and the sucker felt like it got me three or four times before I could pull my hand back. Where do they score on that chart?

No doubt they hurt. Been nailed a few times by yellowjackets, yellow paper wasps and red paper wasps, and red wins.

Yeah I got one on the thumb trying to get it out of an outhouse. Not too terrible but left a pretty big welp.

If you want a good laugh watch the coyote peterson video titled the puke fruit.

I guess that chart is just insects and no arachnids. We had friends live in South Sudan as missionaries. Two types of scorpions over there, the big black ones and small almost translucent ones. According to our friends the big ones are similar to a bad wasp sting. The wife said the small one was a pain worse than childbirth.

Probably posted this before I do not have problems with bugs and snakes etc. but I do have a healthy fear of wasps.

Been stung by both red paper wasps and scorpions (both in Texas.) In my opinion, the scorpion hurt a lot worse than the wasp, but the pain didn't last long at all. Like less than a minute.

Yes. I fell hands forward against the outside wall of my aunt's house in Bryan one night when I was 9 or 10, and one palm hit the asp. Excruciating pain!

Spent half my life in the hill country (Hays Co) and had scorpions fall on my head while raking leaves under the overhang of the house, crawl up my arm and i didn't get stung. My mother used to pick them up by the tails and put them in jars so i could take them for show & tale in 4th grade back in Houston.

Stung by red wasp and that hurt. But then was stung by a black asp and that was brutal. Had a welt and parents were concerned. It even scared my older brother who witnessed it. Asp wins . . . stay clear of them.

Been stung by red wasps several times in my life, shoulder, neck, even my hand. The worst was getting stung in the side of the foot walking through the grass, didn't see it till it was too late. My whole body felt like it was cramping the pain was so bad. If there is any advice I have to give in life, it's don't get stung by a red wasp on the foot.

Yeah I was prolly 13 and trick or treating in the neighborhood wearing OP shorts with a towel draped over my shoulders as a surfer. We were cutting across a bunch of lawns and under live oaks to maintain efficiency. Ended up going home with mom treating my sorry ass for an asp that went around the towel around my neck. It was like I had a mini heart attack or something. Those ****ers suck!

Two of them in the same day...the green spiky ones. First one fell down the back of my shirt when I bumped a crepe myrtle branch trying to duck under it. Stung all the way down my back before I could get it out.

That night I walked outside barefoot and stepped on one. Got me across the bottom of two toes between the pads and ball of my foot.

I didn't go back outside for a few days after that.

I'm pretty sure I stepped on one last year when walking around outside barefoot. Thought I stepped on a roofing nail!
