Anyone have any experience with any particular company they would recommend?

I plan on building it on a slab. The use will be for storage (lawn equipment & possibly a polaris side by side, small tractor) & a shop to tinker on various projects. Size wise somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-25x35-40.

Mueller is probably the most DIY friendly supplier of pre-engineered metal buildings, and their quality is good to very good (if more pricey.)

There are many players in this arena. At the end of the day, steel is steel. Level of finish varies.

If you're in a salt/humid area, or will have manure or other volatile organic compounds, I might suggest splurging on galvanized members and purlins. Painting ain't fun.

Thanks for the response. No salt & no manure. Central Texas....Just hot & dry.

Go as big as you can afford. My FIL built a 30x40 with the same storage requirements. With everything in place, very little tinkering room. Any time we have a project, something has to come out to accomodate it.

Mueller will even provide you a list of area contractors that have done their buildings.

Agree completely. I've never heard from anyone that wished they had built their shop/storage smaller.

I agree. I will go as big as the budget allows. Any guess on what the concrete work would run? If I get lazy or don't have the time anyone have an idea on the cost of a contractor putting it up?

Check it - Central Texas Metal Building

Cliff Notes version:

Concrete - $5.45/sq.ft. - this may be on the higher end, but it was also the best guy in the business. (don't cheap out on the foundation)

Pad work before concrete (had a couple feet fall across pad, brought in crusher fines): $1.25/sq.ft. however I believe this was a function of how out of level the natural ground was, not actually the sq.ft.

Building - I used Mueller. Still undecided on it. A well seasoned home and commercial builder I bounce ideas off said "If I'm going to live in it (bardominium) - Mueller bolt up. If its a shop/storage - independent builder weld-up". The more I ponder this, the more I think he is right. I can go into more detail if you'd like.

Muller - I would rate their quality fair or acceptable to good. Very good does not come to mind. Also take their "contractors" list with a grain of salt. I ended up using a sheeting guy through them, mistake. Again, quality was fair or acceptable.

I just went through everything you're about to. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Edit: Found my sheet of weld-up quotes. $3.5-$4 / sq.ft LABOR to erect a building. Can budget $18-$22/sq.ft. to "get a building up" (concrete, steel, labor, sheets)

I just finished a 30'x40' with 12'x40' overhang Mueller weld up. I'm in North Texas and the price above is pretty low (even his high end). I have 14' side walls, 3 roll up doors, walk in door and two windows. I paid closer to $30 per square foot all in including concrete, materials and labor. I went with Mueller because they had a better warranty and the price difference wasn't that significant from other independents. I did not use a Mueller contractor.

Edit: my structure is I-beam instead of square tubing that added to the price.

Coco Brown Trim - we're twins! That's a good looking shop

I just pulled all my numbers:

43'x100' Muller bolt-up with 3 roll up doors and 2 Mueller walk doors. With concrete. With Labor to install sheeting. I put up red iron myself. = just under $18/sq.ft.

2180 sq. ft. of awnings. Weld-up material. Sheets for awnings (roof only). No concrete. I erected the awnings myself. = $3.30/sq.ft.

Windows are not included in the above numbers. I bought 12 or 15 residential quality windows so the numbers probably are not comparable. However, all the framed openings and trim for the widows are included in the numbers above.

Did you insulate the roof & walls?

Not yet but it's in the plans. I'm planning to run all of my electrical and then cover conduit with spray in insulation. Will then paint the insulation to keep
It from turning yellow.

Thanks for the kind words

Well I guess I better chime in. I have one in the works, 30x40 with 10ft porch on short side (30x50 slab), 12ft side walls, I-Beam, insulated, one insulated double garage door, one insulated single garage door, one double entry door, 3 windows for 35K. No electric, will be doing that myself.

Hopefully this will be finished in 3 weeks or so. I'm in Grayson county, sounds like some of you folks in the central part of the state can get it done a little cheaper.

It sounds like the contractors can be hit-or-miss. Does anyone have a turnkey recommendation for Brazos County?

We are looking for 1200-1500 sf building and will need construction, concrete, electrical, possibly insulation, etc for a gym and outdoor storage.

I got a quote from mueller last week. 30x40 with a small awning. Two roll up doors, man door, two windows.
$22K
They told me to budget $8sq/ft for concrete and $5sq/ft for installation.

Wonder if it's better to wait with all the steel tariff stuff going on. Will prices come down from this soon?
