Pretty simple - what is the best aftermarket weed eater head. Not looking for a spool type, have one already and that is why i am asking.

Grass Gator? Pivottrim? One of those infomercial designs?

Just for general use - no brush cutting it anytbing other than hitting the grass around the house and along driveway, sidewalk and fencelines. Also, what is a good brand of string to use? The brand I have now wears down insanely fast.

My weedeater is an EGO electric if that makes a difference, need sometbing light.

I had to replace it on my weed eater. I used one where you inserted the line, and took .95 line(or whatever the highest one is). Worked well for me. Got it at Lowe's.

Small aside:

I was having an awful time with my EGO string trimmer head. The line wasn't advancing and it was a general pain in the butt.

I just bought a replacement head (ST1500SF) and it works better. I'm not going through line as fast and it advances pretty well, IF you bump the bottom quick enough.

I seem to be the only guy in the world that has a problem with trimmers not working very well, I always feel like I'm doing it wrong.

Bought one of these last year and, although it is a spool type, it has worked well for me. Much better than the stock spool that came with my trimmer.

ETA: As for line, I don't buy the cheap stuff, I have some lying around that I won't use because it's crap and source of great frustration. I usually just buy the most expensive, most heavy duty looking line I can find.

I see that one, but my concern is that it weighs too much for a battery powered trimmer and will either not get up to speed or the batterly life will be nil because of it.

Thanks, texags. I didn't even know aftermarket weed eater heads were a thing. Now to disappear down a rabbit hole and spend $50.

Agree with the Echo, mine is about 3 years old and still working just fine.

I put the Shakespeare Push-N-Load head on my 20V electric Dewalt and it works like a charm. I got it at Lowes for under $20. Its quick to load and saves on string

Me too. I was skeptical about it at first but I am impressed.

One time, a few years ago, I bought one with what looks like four plastic propeller blades. I forgot to tell my wife to be careful with it. I never even got to use it. I had installed it and she used it around a barn building. Every blade was broken off at the nub.

So I got nothin.
