My front yard is slowly being overtaken by this weed.



With the recent rainfall it has quite literally been growing like a weed. I'm seriously considering killing it with fire but am hoping there is a less drastic option.

Not sure what that is. Looks like mimosa. I would think 2,4-D would be your best bet.

It looks like mimosa. If it makes little purple puffball flowers and the leaves close up when you touch them then it is definitely mimosa... not an expert on how to kill mimosa.

Definitely has purple puffball flowers.

Mimosa, the woody plant/shrub? What would cause it to germinate so thick in a well established lawn I wonder? Strange.

Some types of mimosa grow like ground cover.

MSM turf has killed everything I've put it on

Dallisgrass and nutsedge will break your heart soon. Msm is good stuff but I don't think it will help OP.

If you hadn't said it was a weed, I would swear it's mimosa. We used to have one in my yard when I was kid. I wasn't a fan of it.

Sensitive briar. Scientific name is mimosa something. Grows as a ground cover. Doesn't get high off of the ground. Kill as recommended.

Weed - B - Gone FOR SOUTHERN LAWNS should get it. Be sure to add some soap to the mix.

I've read conflicting information about 2,4-D and St Augustine. Is there anything I should do to keep it from killing my entire yard?

Mimosa Pudica (sensitive plant), my yard was infested as well.

I had no luck with any chemicals. I bought a dethatching rake to pull behind my lawn tractor and spent several days dragging the yard. Ended up with a monster pile of the stuff - probably 4 or 5 cubic yards in volume.

That was about 5 years ago, havent had an issue with it since.

It sends long runners above and below the turf and only comes up easily when the ground is damp. As a bonus, it likes to grow small thorns.

I love that stuff !
