I third Lotebush. It's edible and kinda tasty.
Gum Bumelia get their fruit later in the year as do Texas Persimmon (much larger fruit on persimmon as well)

I think you may be right on this one. Looks a lot like the elbow bush behind my house, however mine fruited well over ago. Easy to tell the difference in person... pics make it much harder.

Looks more like this one to me. Wan't looking thorny enough for Lotebush and when I've seen lotebush it tends to be growing in more open areas.
