I've been using the old school thermometers with a dial on top of the probe, but I would like to upgrade to something digital What do y'all use? I would like bluetooth enabled and be able to watch the temp in the smoke chamber as well as the meat being cooked all from my phone.

I have had the Igrill 2 for several years and really like it.

I have the igrill, but the thermopen is the way to go.
Sometimes the igrill will show eradic swings during a long smoke. The thermopen is what I trust to know I've reached critical temp.

I've done way more research on Bluetooth bbq thermometers than I care to admit, and this one seems to be the best I have found in terms of features and reviews/customer satisfaction. I also personally know someone who has it and he loves it.

I haven't set aside the money to buy one yet, but I'm hoping to later this summer.

I also have the iGrill 2 and it's worked well for me. I'm able to sit in my living room or sleep in my bed and take a look at the temp when I want, and I also have alerts set to a min/max temp for grill temp. I'm certain there are better ones out there, but for the price, it's hard to beat.

Yeah, that thing looks effing awesome. As my kids are getting older and more involved in sports that will keep me away from home a lot of Saturdays, getting a WiFi one will eventually happen.

The fireboard is very popular with the pellet grill crowd. I plan on getting one some day. It seems to be the top of the line. I do have an iGrill at this time and it works great.

Had an igrill mini and wanted the ability to use multiple probes so I upgraded to an igrill2. Both have worked well and I haven't had any issues with them.

I've also heard good stuff about the Thermoworks products.

I have had "Cyberq $360.00" on my wish list on my phone for a few months. Now have to research the "Fireboard"! Maybe I will change it to that one.

You need a lavatools/thermopen for grilling

and a dual probe setup from thermoworks for smoking.

Always heard Thermopen was the best digital thermometer.

I have 2 Thermoworks Thermapen and they are great. I just ordered a Thermoworks Smoke last week and look forward to putting it to work as well.

I can't say how they compare but, I've owned two Thermopens and have zero complaints. Have given several as gifts and everyone loves them.

Bought a Smoke last year and it is great, too.

I have an igrill2 and it works for what I need. The only drawback is that it isn't wifi capable. If I were buying one today, I would go with the FireBoard. It has wifi and has the ability to update the firmware.

I still use my thermopen to check steaks and as a backup check on whatever I'm smoking.

I ordered a Thermoworks DOT last week. Haven't used it yet though, as it is supposed to arrive today. It's not Wifi-enabled, but they had a 20% off sale the other day and I was able to get one, with an extra probe, shipped for right around $50.

Maybe one day I'll move up to a Fireboard, but this should do for now.

ETA: According to the site, Thermoworks has 15% off everything on their site today.

I went with the Flame Boss 300, but I'm also using it to control the temp on my KJ as well as report.

Wifi compatible, with phone app and Alexa support. Seems silly, but it is nice to ask Alexa for the temp when you've got your hands covered in raw meat getting ready to go on.

careful with blutooth. The limited range is bad enough but passing through a thick steel wall usually inhibits it significantly. The technology is what it is, so if you are curious on the range, stick a blutooth speaker in there an see how far you can walk away and have a good signal

If you decide to go with a spot checking one, thermapens are AWESOME. Fast and accurate

I have two Lavatools Javelins, and I love them. Super easy to use, works great. And at only $25, they are much less than a Thermopen!

Holy Crap. I just remembered I got a Fire Boss 300 for Christmas. I need to figure out where I hid it and put it to use.

I picked one up a couple of months back after seeing it mentioned here. Only been able to use it once but it blows my old Mavericks out of the water.

You obviously don't deserve it. You should send it to somebody (me) who would appreciate a gift like that.

I just got a smobot for my BGE as an early Father's Day present. This thing is awesome and doesn't rely on a fan for temp control. www.smobot.com

I've had several of those that I bought for very little money at the grocery store. They never seemed very accurate and so I finally gave up on them.

One of them was really bad. According to it, no meat I ever cooked got up to the right temperature. Whenever I tried to use it, whatever I was cooking came out really tough and dry because it was so badly overcooked.

I need to find something better. For the time being, I've been cutting the meat open and using an infrared thermometer to measure the temperature. That's not really much of a solution, though.

I posted this in another thread:

A friend and I have been active BBQ smokers for many years and several years ago started working on a cloud based temperature probe. We've built many prototypes and are now finally starting a Kickstarter for it. The design is mature and we've already have the finished board designs and paid for some of the tooling (LCD for example). The Kickstarter would give us enough funding to pay for the last tooling that is needed.

Our unit connects through wifi (though bluetooth is supported as well) and stores all the smoke data on a cloud server with no cost to the users. We have Android, iOS, and web based apps so you can monitor your smoke or recall previous ones. We've focused on cost to make sure that we can keep the units affordable for everyone.

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1116765378/precision-bbq-wifi-temperature-food-probe?ref=discovery&term=precision%20bbq

Note that with Kickstarter, you only have to pay if the project gets full funded.
