I live in a 8 year old neighborhood, all new homes(cookie cutters) but they are nice. Its a neighborhood you would expect to have an HOA, but we dont.

my neighboors yard always looks so damn bad and he leaves crap in the driveway to no end.

he used to work in a restaurant and he owns these old booths that he pulls out of his garage when he throws parties, then they sit in his driveway for weeks after.

this time (st patricks day!!!) he pulled them out and they are still sitting out there.

I know I will get sarcastic responses, so go ahead. just curious if there is anything I can do.


(disclaimer: we have a bad relationship due to a fence I paid for up front and he waited a year to pay me after he agreed to pay me before construction)

Build one of those crazy sun catcher screens/mirrors that focuses all of the light to one point, calibrate it to focus on a point X feet from your window to the side of the booth, and poof, no more booths.

List the booths for free on Craigslist. Let people know they will be in the driveway for easy pickup.

Befriend him and go to his parties. If and when you're getting ready to sell, use your relationship with him to allow you to mow his lawn and help him put his **** inside his house.

Until then, who really cares? Is it that much of an eyesore that you are seriously worried about it?

City/neighborhood services division (if you have one) can send someone out to give a warning/citation regardless of HOA.

we have a neighbor that decided to repaint their home. It looks like a Easter egg with a roof on it. An obnoxious blue you would typically find on a beach front home and they never even finished painting it. Looks terrible and everyone on our street is making fun of them.

Seriously. Buy a bunch of LED flood lights and point them his direction. When he complains, let him know you only put them up to make sure nobody steals the sofas on his driveway.

This would be my recommendation as well. There could be laws or regulations against some of what this person is doing, but you might not know without city/county involvement. My in-laws, in Missouri, had a house next door with a lot of cars always there, filling up the street, nothing crazy just really more of a nuisance than anything. Well the city came out and determined they had more people living there than they should. City told them to cut the occupancy down or leave, so they left.

Freedom from an HOA gets you this sometimes. Security from an HOA gets you a 75 year old retiree who rides around at 1:30 pm everyday and sends you notices about your hedges needing to be trimmed.

I have done both sides...trust me...if you are someone who takes care of your stuff...having an HOA is way better than not having one.

its one of those things that you dont appreciate until its gone.

I agree. If you have to live in close proximity to people then it's the way I would choose as well. To each their own.
