I would post on social media sites that your neighbor has an assault light pointed at you. It's high powered, has too much capacity and looks scary. Should do the trick...

OP has already said that he's tried to talk to the neighbor on 3 different occasions... and it's gotten him no where.

Not a surprise to me. I have had to talk to a neighbor (actually 2) about barking dogs.... It never gets anywhere. I'd have easily rather had lights to deal with than moron neighbors with dogs they just lock out in their backyard 24hrs a day with nothing to do... but I digress.

Deats... you may be trying to avoid WWIII.... but my experience is you have two options: A) Ignore it and move on or B) Go nuclear on said neighbor.

There's no middle ground once talking has shown to be ineffective.

Hook some of your own newly purchased super bright lights up to a combo time/light sensor. When they come on have them blink out "turn your lights off idiot" in Morse code.

The only.thing worse than a light is a blinking light.

Real responses, in order of cheapest to to biggest ass pain:
Screening, bigger fence and/or vegetation.
HOA involvement, if it exists.
Deed restrictions, if they exist. This is a district court action.
Nuisance law. This is an expensive district court action.

Some municipalities have light nuisance regulations also.

Legal jargon:
Quote:

nuisance is a condition that substantially interferes with the use and enjoyment of land by causing unreasonable discomfort or annoyance to persons of ordinary sensibilities attempting to use and enjoy it.
Recent TX S. Ct case in 2016 updated Texas law on nuisance.

Can you imagine the neighbors dread as he sees a trebuchet being assembled across from his lawn, lit up by his own floodlights.

Well if we are allowed to use weapons of war bring this bad boy to the table. Because good old American redneck ingenuity, a very large compressor and a 5 lb pumpkin are...well...Murica!

It is. A massive storm came through and I am pretty sure the lights crapped out until he replaced them.

If he's worried about security, I agree with the spray paint and hoodie. Give him something to validate his light, then explain how you were robbed and that you did a ton of research indicating that IR and cameras are a far better solution to the problem.

He installs IR floods and cameras! No visible light for you, security for him. TADA.

You've talked to him 3 times with no joy AND you're the swinging dick of the HOA?

Get a light activated alarm that goes off facing his house when his lights light up your backyard. When he complains about the noise, it is activated by his security lights as an extra measure and he doesn't need to thank you.

Thuja Green Giants. They can grow 6 feet per year, so we're talking 2 seasons until full barrier achieved, less if you buy more mature trees

Tie into the electric line (covertly of course) with some device that uses lots of juice. A honking A/C unit will do nicely. When he discovers how much electricity he's paying for maybe he will cease this nonsense. Anyway, lights aren't the best burglar deterrent. A big old mean looking dog is.

I think pitch black dark is the biggest burglar deterrent. They have to use a light which gives away their presence and location. Then, when the dogs go after them in the dark, they can't see crap while running, which at my place in the dark is downright dangerous. You'd hit barbed wire or risk impaling yourself on a broken cedar limb. Then the dogs would catch you and just shred your clothes if you are lucky.

A nuisance is a condition that substantially interferes with the use and enjoyment of land by causing unreasonable discomfort or annoyance to persons of ordinary sensibilities attempting to use and enjoy it. Barnes v. Mathis, 353 S.W.3d 760, 763 (Tex. 2011). Actionable nuisance may fall into one of three categories: negligent invasion of another's interests; intentional invasion of another's interests; or other conduct, culpable because abnormal and out of place in its surroundings, that invades another's interests. City of Tyler v. Likes, 962 S.W.2d 489, 503 (Tex. 1997). Nuisance is a field of tort liability, a kind of damage done, rather than any particular type of conduct. Id. at 504. A nuisance can occur in one of three ways: (1) by physical harm to property; (2) by physical harm to a person on his or her property, such as an assault on his or her senses or by other personal injury; or (3) by emotional harm to a person from the deprivation of the enjoyment of his or her property, such as fear, apprehension, offense, or loss of peace of mind. Tex. Union Pac. Res. Co. v. Cooper, 109 S.W.3d 557, 560 (Tex. App.Tyler 2003, pet. denied) (op. on reh'g). Noise and glaring light can be a nuisance. See GTE Mobilnet of S. Tex. Ltd. P'shp. v. Pascouet, 61 S.W.3d 599, 615 (Tex. App.Houston [14th Dist.] 2001, pet. denied).

My in-laws went through a similar situation. They live on 5 acres outside of Lufkin city limits. They removed the absolute minimum amount of trees to get their log home built. It was a beautiful wooded experience. The lot next to them went unsold for a long time, which they regret not buying.

A retired police office eventually bought the lot. First thing he did was clear cut it. Then he attempted to surround the entire lot with a barb wire fence. My in-laws voiced opposition to that so he put a wood rail fence on their side. He also placed multiple floodlights on tall poles to light up his entire yard. I'm not kidding, the place looks like a football stadium at night. They complained about that as well, but all he did was adjust the lights a little away from them. Even so, it has totally ruined my in-laws "live in the woods" vibe.

And why did he do all of that, you ask? He's paranoid about being robbed. No joke.

I think my aunt and uncle live in that neighborhood. Story sounds familiar.
