My 9 year old son and I headed down to DeWitt County Saturday to turkey hunt Easter day.
We were in the woods 30 minutes before first light. 10 minutes after sunrise a boss tom and his harem of 6 hens come into our set. Tom was at full strut spittin' and dummin' at 15 yards. My son did a beautiful job of getting his gun up and getting on the bird undetected with so many eyes so close. Unfortunately, I think he shot a little low. Put a big hit on the bird knocking him down, but he got up and flew across the sendero and out of sight.
We moved twice and 3 hours later we had a jake at 9 yards and this one was not getting away. In my mind, there's nothing better than spending time in the woods with our kids. So many life lessons and teachable moments come out of these trips. Wouldn't trade this time for anything! This was a hunt I'll remember forever!
