Called yesterday and waiting on him to put together a parts package. Very helpful guy. It was a pleasure to speak with him. He tried to sell me on 6.5 CM instead of .308. Not sure which I prefer yet. Thanks for the recommendation, though.
Listen to him.
My concerns with 6.5 CM are two-fold: (1) availability of the round, particularly under a strict regulatory scheme or if SHTF, and (2) life of the barrel. The barrel life isn't a huge deal to me as I'm not going to put that many rounds through it. But, availability of the round is a big deal to me, and I know .308 is readily available.

Walmart sells 6.5CM now. The only way ammo becomes readily available is through popularity. Everyone keeps saying it's hard to get, yet they don't understand it takes time for companies to add it to their standard stock. That's not ever going to happen if people don't purchase guns in 6.5. I've never had an issue getting ammo in stores or online.

That's completely fair. I guess I also don't imagine taking a shot further than 400 yards, and I'm not sure there's much of a difference in the two rounds at <400 yards.

My thinking isn't that I should buy a 6.5 to make it more popular, but that I may want a .308 because the round is already popular. I wish I had the funds for both! That would make my decision a lot simpler.

And you are correct. At 400 yards there are too few differences to argue about one being superior to the other. I own one solely because it's just the new thing and I always jump on the bandwagon.

Well I'm jealous because I'd jump on all the bandwagon's if my wallet would allow it. Only difference I can really imagine is recoil I suppose, but I've never fired a 6.5 CM so I have no idea.
