There used to be an anecdote in the early 90's about a Marine who put on his flak vest and challenged a buddy to bayonet him. As predicted, the awesome flak vests from the 80's and 90's only stopped the barrel of the M-16 from penetrating. The victim/challenger received all 8 inches of the bayonet. I think this was prior to the Darwin Awards, definitely an honorable mention.

Just because the victim was wearing a ballistic vest doesn't mean the shooter didn't shoot him elsewhere.
Did the video say if the shot penetrated the vest? I don't think I heard it if they did.
Witness and shooter "on the run" may say something. We'll see when more details emerge.
EDIT: I missed the other thread. Welp, sounds like a lot of stupid happened alright.
