How long do you want to ignore this user?
Moving to Dallas this summer and was wondering if the group had any thoughts on top fly fishing spots in the immediate area. I've fished the LMF in Broken Bow, but that's still a pretty good haul away. I've heard Ray Roberts is good for carp, but I don't have a boat.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Not immediate, but there's good fly fishing below the Lake Whitney dam on the Brazos. I know there is a guide service that I've seen out there a few times, but you can just rent a canoe or kayak and DIY.

You don't have to have a boat for the carp on ray Roberts. Just need to know where the flats are. Been doing it for 20 years. And yes...it's a blast.

I fish some of the limestone creeks in N Dallas or Richardson. A 3wt is pretty fun for small sunfish and occasional bass.

Brazos river below Possum Kingdom dam, Blue River in south central OK, Red river in the miles below Denison Dam (getting a theme here? Tailwaters are key). Short answer is for good fly fishing without a boat you will need to be willing to drive 1.5- 2hrs from Dallas. I cant speak to the carp fishing, etc at the local lakes,,,,,,

I used to target and catch schooling sand bass on my fly from a kayak on Lewisville all the time. Occasionally got to tangle with a hybrid. Would Fish the first hour or so after sunup, when the schools were on top. Then I would paddle in some coves and catch perch and small bass. I never got an good sized bass, but they are there to be had

I've looked at that and it's somewhat helpful. Truthfully I'd go explore myself but just don't have much time with work. Not looking for specific spots, but want to be in the correct zipcode on targeting the flats.

I'd love to know where those flats are as well.
