How old is the age to purchase handgun ammo inTexas? One site said 18, but then said 21 by federal law

21 but if you're buying it for a rifle, it's 18.

Example:

18yrs old - 9mm ammo for G17 = illegal
18yrs old - 9mm ammo for AR-9 = legal

Make sense?

Pretty sure it's 21 for handgun ammo... At least it was when I was younger. I haven't cared to check since I turned 21.

From ATF:

Quote:

All firearms other than shotguns and rifles, and all ammunition other than ammunition for shotguns or rifles may be sold only to individuals 21 years of age or older.

You have to be 16 to purchase BBs.
You also have to be 16 to buy replacement rubber slings for a sling shot. Yep, just for the rubbers.
Try it at Walmart sometime.

Any age limit on actual rubbers?

That would be irresponsible...

I may have hypothetically made a fake ID when I was 16 to buy ammo when going to the ranch for the weekend. I was not getting carded for snuff by them.

So an 18 year old can buy a rifle but not the ammo for it?

I think it said 18 for rifle ammo and 21 for hand gun ammo.

Technically, yes.

If you buy a lever action .357 rifle or AR-9 in a rifle platform or a beretta CX4 storm, you have a rifle that shoots handgun ammunition. So by that law, you could technically be denied the right to purchase ammo if you're 18, despite being able to purchase the rifle.

I have never personally tried using the "it's for a rifle" excuse but you technically (and legally - if it's true) can do it. Eyeguy or someone else on here might be able to provide real feedback as a seller.

If you are buying 22lr they will ask what it is for. I have had them do the same for 44 mag when I was younger.
