I see lots of you guys talking about eating one of those nasty Allsup's deep fried burritos when road-tripping through our part of the world. Thought you might care to know about the passing of the store's founder.

I met Mr. Allsup at a church function, back when I was at A&M. Nice guy, which I've also heard from lots of other sources, and confirmed in the obit.

Take a bite of bean burrito and raise your Tallsup to a local legend

I'll be making a little side trip on my Friday road trip to grab an Allsups burrito.

RIP Lonnie.

Damn. RIP Mr. Allsup. Love those burritos. I always stop and get one when I am near an Allsup's.

His legacy will live on through munchers, howlers and of course the chuck wagon burrito.

RIP Mr. Allsup!

It's not a true hiking trip to Caprock if my brothers don't get two "World Famous" burritos in Quitaque afterwards.

My pest control company here in Lubbock travels all over the panhandle and eastern New Mexico for work and my guys are always stopping at an Allsups. We probably spend enough to send his great great great grandchildren to med school every year there.

Well it's a two day old burrito
One lukewarm beer to go
On the Sunday side of a roadtrip weekend
Lordy I was feeling so low
When somebody flipped on the jukebox
And I heard ol Bob Wills say
"Stay all night, stay a little longer" so I held on another day
Back in College when I heard Pat Green live, he did a break down of the song and said it was an Allsups Burrito

Those burritos aren't always fresh but allsups always has cold beer.

That depends. Lots of dry counties in the panhandle (or there used to be)

Thing I could never understand was how Allsups could always be filthy.

Even when a new one was built, within a week it was nasty inside.

Seems like he found the Allsups burrito under the seat of his pickup truck.

Everybody has a friend who has a truck like that.

We call them dashboard burritos. I always buy a couple extras.

Growing up in Clovis we had an Allsups on nearly every corner it seems. Hell, we had an Allsups food truck that sold burritos, chimichangas, sodas and candy that parked on the street across from my Jr. High. My friends and i would hardly ever eat in the school cafeteria. I still have a plastic Allsups cup from the mid 80's that you could take back to the store for something like a .39 cent refill. The majority of their stores are dirty, smelly eye sores but I can't pass up the occasional opportunity for a gut bomb and Tallsup when I go back home.

My wife is from White Deer (near Pampa) and grew up on Allsups & their chimichangas/burritos.
Been through the panhandle alot over the years and my respect has grown for Allsups.

RIP Lonnie

The one down the street from my office doesn't have beer.

They recently expanded the store quite a bit in the expectation that they will be able to sell beer.

I quit eating prepared food from Alsup's about four am one morning about ten or twelve years ago when I bought a barbecue sandwich in town and headed home. I took the barbecue sandwich out about three miles down the road and took a bite. That sandwich had to have been at least three days old. I ended up giving it to the dog.

The next time I stopped was a week later and the manager was there and so I brought this up. She told me that she couldn't give me a refund since I fed it to the dog. I told her that it didn't matter -- I wasn't going to eat anything else there every again anyway. I stop for other things, but haven't bought any so-called "fresh" food at Alsup's since then.

In high school we would get late night burritoes after back-roading...

Allsups in my home town was bad at mopping the floors, but not moving the cases of beer while they did this. One time the case we bought was a victim of late night floor mopping, because every beer can reeked and tasted of soap. So we got some Dr. Pepper and set all of the beer upright on the tailgate and dumped some DP onto the lips of the can. Didn't really help, but we choked it down anyway.

Can't spell Allsup's and buys barbecue sandwich over burritos - fail in soooo many ways.

Going to grad school at Tech, it was my mainstay when travelling. Burritos and bbq sandwiches were awesome. The one in Morton was special.

Amazon Windsor Posada burritos/chimis, couple with JITB or DQ hot sauce, and you have an almost equal. They manufacture the Allsups burritos.

I have 4 bottles of Allsups taco sauce in my pantry (almost makes other gas station burritos taste like Allsups). My wife is from Pampa and her mother keeps me stocked up. I rarely make it up that way but when I do, I always get some burritos.

Is it the beef, beans, and red chili?

They built a real nice new one on 214 in Morton last summer I think.

So basically it matches the one on 114 now?

My cousins used to live just outside of town. They would hang out at the Allsups. When it was time to come home my aunt would flip the porch light on.

Allsups Ballinger, Tx in the 80s.

Grandmother would send me there to get some Burrritos and a carton of Cigs for her. Would play Tank Command video game with the change.

Having grown up in the Piney Woods of SE Texas, when I moved out her for work in 2003, I didn't understand the "cult" following Allsups had. Until "that" day. We had just wrapped up a pheasant hunt and had our limit so we stopped at allsups and get some beer and my boss brought me a chimichanga. In an effort to be polite, I ate the burrito. Holy cow, it was amazing. Maybe it was because it had been a long hunt, or we were all still a bit hungover from the night before.

I travel all over Texas, Oklahoma and New Mexico for work and generally in the rural parts of those states and most small towns have an Allsups. I'll get fuel, a tallsup and a chimichanga.

RIP Mr. Allsup!

We used to get the Allsups refillable cups for our road trips to & from New Mexico growing up. Good times.
