We have a lot of Sika and I am very familiar with them. We have seen a handful of elk over the years and one Silk (Sika-Elk) cross. Not sure where this ugly guy falls so I am polling the OB

Doesnt look like a Sika either but certainly has some qualities of both.

crazy looking critter. Silk seems reasonable to me. Make sure it's not a barasingha, then enjoy backstraps
(not saying that's what it is, just that you should make sure it's not)

Went to a YO auction 5-6 years ago and they were selling some true Silk, aka Elk/Sika crosses. They looked identical to your pictures. Silk typically have the neck "mane" that are similar in Elk and are usually larger in body size than a pure Sika....but not always. I knew the rancher who bought them and he said they ate good!

The same way they tried to regulate Scimitar Horned Oryx, Addax and Dama Gazelle a few years back. They are not just regulated in Texas but federally in U.S. Animal rights activist/ Obama admin. would rather have them go extinct than have them hunted on ranches in the U.S.

I dont think it is one but the only ones I have ever seen are on the way to Port O and those might be Sumbar or Rusa Deer not Barasingha
