Polishing a stainless steel revolver?

I do not know the first thing about steel polishing

Just bought a Colt Cobra and as much as I love the gun, i am not a fan of the dull stainless finish and would like to get it a bit more of a shine like the old Detective Specials had.

Anyone have any pointers on where I could go to have this done?

How expensive is it?

No idea where you could go to have it done but I doubt it would be too difficult to do with a buffing compound and wheel.

If you wanted a mirror polish you could take it to ~3000 grit (starting at a much lower grit of course) before buffing.

you could always nickel plate it and then knock off a few liquour stores.

I would suggest enjoying your pistol for what it is, rather than destroying any value it has by trying to emulate a cartel member. If you want to do that, just find some scorpion or Our Lady of Guadalupe grips.

Pics? I love revolvers, they are probably my favorite. I carry daily a 686+ S&W 3in 357mag.

That's only half of the equation. You've gotta remember to hold it in the "kill shot" position as well.

To get high polish, you either need a lot of patience, or you must use a machine. The machines used are simple, basically a grinder motor with muslin cloth wheels. You use various grades of polishing compound to get to the desired level of polish. There will be areas on a revolver that must be done by hand because the wheel can't make the radius, etc...

A word of caution... a polishing wheel, in untrained hands, often leads to disaster. The metal must always be moving. The slightest pause, or variation in speed, will lead to flat spots. This is one of the key reasons I don't do bluing jobs. To get that deep finish, you have to first high polish the metal. I don't have the finesse or the patience...

Polishing goes against your nature. You want to bead blast every shiny surface you can get you hand on.

Just don't get pearl handles.

Son, only a pimp in a Louisiana *****- house carries pearl-handled revolvers. These are ivory.

This guy is out of San Antonio Texas. I would contact him through Gun Broker.

Here is one of his pieces for sale.

I am planning on having him engrave a revolver for me when I get a few more coins saved up. Be sure and post pics when you are done.

You are correct... shiny stuff scares animals I intend to shoot...

All you need is Flitz polish, a rag and time.

Be advised, once the gun is shiny, you'll see every finger print and smudge...
