CZ makes nice guns throughout most of their lineup and they handle and shoot well. You'll enjoy it I think. Plenty of aftermarket chokes available of them as well, just be very careful because they often have different threads between the 12 ga and 20 ga offerings, even in the same named line, so be extra careful if you go that route.

I would have made the same choice.

For what this'll get used for, I'm optimistic it'll hold up well. Wouldn't try to shoot skeet competitively with it, but should be a good field fun.

If that's because you already own a lot of pistols and not enough shotguns, right on.

If it's because you're a shotgun guy and not a pistol shooter, expand those horizons. If I hadn't won this one i was going to be picking up a o/u or semi bird gun in the next year or two.

I won this Weatherby Orion in a raffle a few years ago. Sorry Turkish bastages didn't even try to hide the fact they blatantly ripped off Beretta's impeccable design. The advantage to extended chokes is that the Gun Manufacturer gets to charge more for a 'cool' looking Sporting model. Nothing wrong with flush chokes. The shotguns I own with extended chokes all came that way otherwise I wouldn't have them.

In all seriousness, the longer choke means less pellet deformation and better patterns, but, it's not going to make a big difference to the average shooter. The only practical advantage to most people is you can change them out without a choke wrench.

Assuming the choke is milled to the constriction it claims to be then they are all the same. Extended chokes are just easier to change, that is all. For your gun stick in Mod/Mod and don't ever take them out. CZ makes good guns and even more importantly their customer service is top notch.

My next sporting clays gun will be a Kolar with fixed chokes, Imp. Mod over Mod.

CZ makes solid shotguns, and they will last a lifetime unless you decide to ise it for a hammer.

Snobs are going to be sbobs no matter what, and a good shooter will bust clays or birds just the same with a Turkish made gun versus an Italian made gun.

Extended chokes are easier to change, no other advantage over flush chokes. You are literally talking about 1 to 1.5 inches on barrel length.

It came with 5. F, IM, M, IC, C.

For quail (and maybe pheasant though last year they flushed too early to matter, never had a shot) should I go IM and M? Does it matter which goes where? You can select the barrel to fire first but honestly I was planning on setting it one way and not messing with it from then on while I learned how to shoot the gun.

Nah, that's the (eventually going to be) suppressed 8.5" 300 blk that i thought was my last gun purchase this year.

I would go IM on top and M on bottom, select the bottom barrel first and leave it alone. Some might go M on top and IC on bottom, but I tend to believe that it is easy to have too little choke and hard to have too much.

Nice shotgun. For quail I would go IC in the bottom and M in the top. Don't mess with the selector even after you learn to shoot the gun.

If you are shooting pen raised pheasants I would still stick with IC and M. If you are hunting wild pheasants I would go with M and F.

More targets of opportunity while quail hunting than actually going after them.

Last time after hunting quail (no dogs, just walking) we spent an extra 45 minutes watching a couple of pheasant flush about 75-100 yards in front of us over and over and over again trying to get close enough to get a shot.

Nice win. I agree with the above two posters about bottom barrel first. The thought is it forces the recoil more into your shoulder and causes less muzzle flip so you can get that follow up shot off faster.

Just shot my first and second round of skeet ever with the gun. Got the second round on GoPro, I'll upload it tonight.

Any guesses how many clays got busted by something other than gravity?

Enough to make if fun so N>1 but not enough to brag about out shooting more expensive guns so N<50.

Way, way closer to 1 than 50.

But I'm past the fallacy of blaming equipment for shooter failures after shooting pistol competitions. Give me some experienced skeet shooters $4,000 dedicated skeet set up and hand him my CZ and he would still kick my ass up one side and down the other. Skill and Experience>Gear.

With that said, my skeet skills are crap.

My first round I hit 6. Second round I improved a lot and hit 10.

I was also handicapped by running the remote myself since I was shooting alone. There was no delay so it was rushing my mount every single time to hit the button then get the gun up.

Still enjoyed it, it's always humbling to try something new and get out of your comfort zone. I was shooting 7 1/2 since that's probably what I'll shoot for the hunt instead of the 9 that seems to get recommended for skeet a lot. 50 rounds with a few bad mounts and my shoulder is a touch tender....this is definitely a lightweight field gun, not a nice heavy competition shotgun.

I need to find time to drag my friend that's a big shotgunner out to the range with me so he can start telling me all the things I'm doing wrong, because I know there's a lot of them.

Either way, we will see how quail hunting over Christmas goes. Last year I was able to do okay with a borrowed old pump action shotgun, so I think I'll manage to get a few birds despite my woeful wing shooting skills.

There's nothing wrong with the choke tubes that came with your gun. CZ 20 gauge barrel threads are unique and not interchangeable with other brands like their 12 gauge guns. If you want more or different choke tubes you might still be able to get them from Mark DeHaan, although I understand he is retiring.

Other aftermarket options are Carlson, Trulock, and Briley, all of which offer 20 gauge chokes for CZ shotguns.
If you go with Carlson, on their website click on Huglu (the manufacturer) because you won't find CZ listed.

FWIW, which is what you pay for advice from anyone here, I always shoot IC/Mod on quail - wild or preserve birds. Quail are not hard to kill and denser patterns turn them into "gumbo birds" as my Cajun hunting buddy calls them.

Muller makes great chokes for CZ as does Briley. No need to buy any until you learn to shoot the gun. Everyone i shoot clays with uses IC and mod or Mod and Mod. Serious competition guys willl also carry a skeet choke just in case. Those guys will also change rounds for different conditions as well.

The first lesson anyone should tell you in shooting skeet or clays is practice your mount so it is the same every time. Next is quit looking at the end of the barrel, look at the target.
