How long do you want to ignore this user?
Picked up a Glock 17 from theeyeguy a couple weeks ago and I need to get a holster for it but can't really decide what to get. I'm not really trying to carry it concealed so probably want a more comfortable OWB holster. Anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks for the help in advance.

Leather:
Tucker Gun Leather
Jason Winnie

Kydex:
Comp-Tac
Omega
Garrett Industries

For the record, the belt is MUCH more important than the holster. Get a good gun belt. Do it. No questions.

I'd be interested to know what good gun belts are or what makes a good gun belt, I normally just wear my mission elite tactical belt.

The Galco M4X series (used with my Mod 23) is an outstanding retention holster, with a very intuitive release. I see it does not work with Gen 5 Glocks.

Galco M4X
Edited to add...I also see it's not listed for a Mod 17, that would the M6X

I have seen Bender recommend the magpul Texas belts a good few times. I'm probably going to replace my Galco belt with one.

Generally you want a belt that's pretty stiff, usually reinforced with some type of material, that will help to support the added weight of the handgun. Make sure to follow the manufacture guidelines about how to size it though.

As far as holsters, I have a comptac OWB that I use for IDPA/USPSA comps or when I'm hunting. It works well enough, but I would probably try to get something that rides closer to the body outside of those uses.

Paloma - That works! Good gun belt is just something good and stiff so it can support the holster and weight of the gun.

Just a regular belt from Dillard's isn't enough. I've seen guys try to carry with a Kenneth Cole reversible belt and it's a no go.

Just make sure it's something meant for carrying a gun on it.

Yeah it's always worked fine for my purposes. I'd just keep seeing the term "gun belt" thrown around and every time I hear that I think of my gun belt that I have for my Ruger 45 Long Colt. Thanks for the clarification

Trinity Carry Systems for a great kydex OWB holster. Wilderness Tactical 5 stitch for your belt.

WhiteHat holster with a Saddleback belt is my daily go to.

I have a belt from Tucker and Byrd and it is great for carry. They are twice as thick as a normal belt so your carry doesn't sag. Makes a huge difference IMO.

Congrats on getting THE best handgun in the world and my personal favorite carry gun.

BELT: I've used Wilderness Tactical belts for umpteen years now. They're not dress belts, but if you go untucked like I do they're great gun belts.

OWB: For OWB carry I sometimes use a FIST #12 in leather. For range or training I use a Comp-Tac kydex holster.

IWB: If you decide you wanna conceal that bad boy and carry it then my preference for the past 5-6 years (maybe more) is the CrossBreed Supertuck in cowhide. I've tried horsehide too but didn't like it. Too squeaky.

I've been SUPER happy with the multiple Bravo Concealment holsters I have. Kydex IWB or OWB, and I've used both. Super reasonable priced and on sale right now too.

I was about to ask if anyone uses them. Do they hold pretty tight to the body? I have been wanting to try an OWB for conceal. I was thinking about picking up one of the double deals

You have stated you are not going to carry concealed at this time, so what do you see yourself doing when carrying the gun?

Riding around a deer lease on a 4 wheeler would get a different recommendation than something to use at a range or to do IDPA/USPSA with.

I use one from Patriot Holsters for open carry at the ranch and T Rex Arms holsters for concealed carry or class use. I use a Stormrider Gear Warlord or Ronin TF belt.

I've got an XDS that's comfortable for me to conceal which I do. So this was just for me to have when at the ranch

Depending on what "at the ranch" means I'd probably go for a retention holster like a Safariland ALS. You shouldn't lose much to a passive retention holster for draw speed, and you don't have to worry about a branch or something getting caught up on the grip of your pistol and getting it out of the holster.
