Not a huge fan of basil Hayden. To sweet for my taste.

A guy I work with always drank Crown almost exclusively. He's now a big Basil Hayden's fan. Drank it with him a few times now and quite enjoyed it.

College roommate stayed with my wife and I this week and he brought a bottle of basil Hayden's with him. Really good whiskey so far.

Give Weller bourbon a try. Very smooth and good straight or mixed. Also easy on the wallet.

Texas Crown

Just put a little food color in the cheapest moonshine at the liquor store and it will be better than Crown. If you insist on drinking whiskey not made in Kentucky that blended TX brand I hear is decent.

Mine too. Can't go wrong with the plastic handle.

Canadian Club is the well version of crown. Mixed with soda I can't even tell he difference.

Just to update - tried basil hayden last week....liked it a lot. Just poured a glass of TX...liked it better!

I was turned on to the "Man and Two Dogs" by some coworkers years ago. I thought they coined the term. That and Canada Dry does the trick for me.

I keep a bottle of Maker for me to enjoy how I want.

If I want to socially drink and know it will be a lot, I go with Ezra Brooks.

Thanks for the rec. I actually find the basil hayden easier to drink but tastes a little bland, if that's the right word, compared to TX. Both good.

Forty Creek is very good and in my opinion better than Crown. The best value Canadian whisky hands down is Black Velvet Reserve. For all you guys saying Rich & Rare, do yourselves a huge favor and try the Black Velvet Reserve. It's aged 8 years and is very smooth for the price. Wiser's is also a good cheap alternative to Crown. It mixes well and is ok on it's own. I found the R&R to be very cheap and didn't even mix well for me. I bought it once and will never do it again.

This was our replacement for our buddy's crown while he and his guide were out chasing a bull elk after 3 of us had tagged our bulls.

Kentucky Deluxe

I actually prefer the R&R reserve (and buchannons) over crown for blended options. I couldn't tell you what they taste like mixed because I don't mix them. On ice, both are very suitable, as well as neat

If any of you live in a state where Costco can sell Kirkland branded booze, their Canadian Whisky ain't half bad.

Switched to Wisers 10 years ago. This is as close a substitute to Crown I have found and a much better price, plus it doesn't give me as bad of a headache! High recommend if only looking for a Crown sub.

Chevis Regal (sp?). is very similar to Crown...

Try developing your palette and go for some single malts on ice. I recommend 15yr Glenfiddich and if that's too much try some Skrewball on ice
