How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm looking to add a suppressor & SB to my 300blk this christmas. I need some help picking out the best barrel/can combo for $1,500.

Note: I'll also be swapping the can to a full length 300 for general hunting duties around the ranch.

I have a 10.5" barrel with a Silencerco Saker. Have been very pleased with the set-up and have used it on my WSM. Look into getting an adapter instead of direct thread. I have the MADD adapter and it makes it easy to swap between guns.

Get a 8.5"-10.5" barrel from Ballistic Advantage and this: http://www.capitolarmory.com/silencerco-harvester-30-suppressor.html

You should be under your budget even with the cost of both stamps.

Same here, running a 10.5" Rainier Super match and a Saker with the MAAD adapter and have compatible brakes/flash hiders on my 5.56, 300blk, and my 30-06. Very happy with the barrel from Rainier, have a buddy in BP who calls it surgical.

I'm running an 8.5" Noveske barrel. Very accurate.

I am just starting to try to learn about suppressors and plan to order my first one in the next few weeks so this thread is great for me. Thanks OP.

Would someone mind explaining what the MAAD adapter is/does versus other options? I really know nothing so please start with the basics.

It's basically a quick connect like with an air hose. The adapter acts as a muzzle brake or flash hider when not in use. It threads on the barrel instead of a direct thread suppressor. When you want to put the suppressor on, you slide onto the adapter and turn a few clicks.

The advantage is that you can put an adapter on all of your guns and quickly move your suppressor from one gun to the next.

Awesome explanation. Thanks.

If all of my rifles have the same thread pattern, is there a disadvantage to just threading/in threading the can directly to the barrel of whichever gun I want it on? Is there more to it than that?

MAAD mount is silencerco's first gen(?) QD mounting system. It allows you swap between different host rifles as long as you have a MAAD mount compatible muzzle device on each rifle. They now have the ASR mounting system that's supposed to be better(?) because it has some threads that help to make sure you have the can mounted correctly so you don't end up with a baffle strike. I only have experience with the MAAD system which has a few quirks that are easily figured out after you do it wrong once. The biggest thing to take away is if you're going to use your can on multiple rifles, you're going to want a QD system that is easy to use, and easily added to whatever other rifles you plan to use it with.

QD system helps keep you from boogering up your threads

Ok. So it obviously isn't as simple as just unscrewing the can from the barrel and screwing it in to the other rifle. Can you explain the process of attaching the can to a rifle without a quick detach system?

And thanks a ton to y'all for the replies. I love this board.

With the adapter you can switch between calibers but with direct thread you cannot. 556 and 762 barrels are threaded different so you would need an adapter to use one suppressor between both.

Look into the one Earl mentioned. I haven't researched in a while but the MADD was the latest when I bought. I had problems with baffle strikes at first so I guess they have since corrected the problem.

WIthout the QD attachment, it is that simple. Line up the threads, screw it on, and hand tighten only.

The main issue with direct thread is that different calibers use different thread patterns and different countries may use still different patterns for similar calibers. You would need a thread adapter for each thread pitch you come across. The QD muzzle devices solve this by acting as an adapter between all the different thread pitches and a common interface on the suppressor.

Direct thread does have some advantages. You can save about 1" in overall length and several ounces trading all those QD components for the direct thread. Those ounces add up since they are all hanging off the front end of the barrel. If those are critical, they may be worth considering.

I knew the caliber/thread difference part from reading online, but the guns I will shoot with the suppressor are all the same thread. .308 and .300 blk. I guess it would be cool to have this QD setup and thread that adapter in those guns as well as my .223's. Hadn't really thought of that.

In that case, you could go direct thread without issue. You can buy thread protectors for your muzzle threads to help protect them when the suppressor is off. But 30 caliber cans do a good job on 223/556, so going with the QD muzzle devices would allow you to swap quickly between all of your platforms.

I like the functionality the Saker offers with the interchangeable mounts. The first gen Sakers with the MADD mounts are being phased out. You might be able to find one for a steep discount. Or you can go with the replacement Saker ASR which is slightly longer, offers similar performance sound wise, but is quite a bit cheaper than the first gen.

The ASR mounts look a lot like the AAC 51T style mounts -> very coarse threads that line up the supressor with the bore and a lock ring which keeps the two connected. I have seen those screwed up as well. There is at least one video out there of a guy launching his can because it wasn't seated properly.

With the MAAD system you have to make sure that it's seated flush and that you crank it down all the way. As you crank it down the ratcheting system pulls itself into/onto the muzzle device achieving a flush mount that should give you a proper mount eliminating the chance for baffle strikes. The quirk that gets folks with the MAAD system is if you don't back it all the way off until the unit clicks open it can be tightened just enough that it won't fit over the QD connection and it's a PITA to correct. Which is why you only goof it up once because you learn your lesson and don't want to mess up your can/accessories.

You can direct thread, but if you swap things out with any regularity you run the risk of boogering up your threads, whether that be from wearing them out or crossthreading. A QD set up takes that risk away.

Just ordered my BA 8.5" barrel. Primary arms had it in stock and cheaper than BA... now to call and ask about a suppressor tomorrow!

I went round and round w accuracy issues with my MAAD attachment on my .233 Wylde. Swapped to ASR and it went away. Expensive swap but it fixed my problem. If you had a choice I'd go ASR for a QD system in the SilencerCo family.

Finally taking the 300 blk dive myself. Have a 8.5" upper coming, and saw this float by my newsfeed today:

5" suppressor on a 8.5" barre sounds nice. Don't know anything about rugged suppressors but I'm tempted.

I think I'm gonna go with the AAC. Seems like it can be had for a good price
