CZ Rami Failure to Feed issues

I bought this CZ Rami BD a few months ago.

It will eat up FMJ rounds without issue. I've tried a few different defense loads and I get a Failure to Feed similar to the below link (note: not my gun, just found a link online that was exact same issue).

Failure to Feed

I haven't taken the time to polish the feed ramp yet, as I've been doing a lot of research on the issues. So far I've found the below possible fixes.

  • Polish feed ramp
  • Upgrade magazine springs to Wolf springs
  • Upgrade recoil spring to CGW spring (spring needs replaced every 1000 rounds anyway, so this will happen either way).

I can keep trying different defense loads, but I'd rather fix the issues with the gun if it's an issue. Others with similar issues have sent their Rami back to CZ for repairs without any improvement.

I'm also leaning towards doing the CGW Rami Defensive Carry Package and polishing the internals while installing the kit.

Does anybody else have a Rami that they've had similar issues with?

Edit: When I do encounter a FTF, it's solved quickly by grabbing the slide and pulling back and then releasing. The round chambers at that point.

Also, I bought the gun for the sole purpose of defensive carry. If I can't make it reliable, it will be sold. I don't want to do that though, as I really like how it shoots and everything else about it with the except of the FTFeeds.

Do you have any pictures of the failures?

Mainly I'm curious if the gun is failing to go into battery but the round in getting part way into the chamber, or if the round is hitting the feed ramp/elsewhere and jamming.

Go cheapest to most expensive if you're trying to trouble shoot by replacing parts.

Start with running the gun very, very wet with lube. Hornady Critical Defense also has a longer taper than many self defense cartridges, so see if it will feed in the gun.

If you're planning on Cajunizing the gun anyway, might call them, talk about what you're planning on upgrading and ask if they see Ramis with feeding issues and what they do about it. If anyone would know if this was common and how to fix it, they would.

Sorry you're having trouble with your CZ.

The round is hitting the feed ramp and not even going forward. I had an issue with rounds not going into battery, but that was with Freedom Munitions 147Gr XTP rounds. The shoulder of the round was hitting the lands.

Once the rounds get past the feed ramp, they chamber fine and fire good, no FTE or anything at that point.

I will call CGW before pulling the trigger and talk to them. I want to do the defense package either way, just not if I'm going to end up getting rid of the gun.

Some are wonky with different types of JHP ammo, I'd also look into a couple different type so JHP. First thing first, get the feed ramps polished. You can do it yourself, or if in Houston, we can probably get it in and out to you on the same day.

If you can't get it working, I'd be interested in it as a project gun.

Eyeguy, hijacking this thread a little. What's the best method to polish the feed ramp? Want to do it on my P01 (which I bought from you).

Eh, if I can get a good price on a Rami, I'll work the thing over. Plus, the odds of me ever carrying the thing aren't very high with my P30SK, 238 and 938.... so just having another CZ is a benefit in and of itself.

As to polishing, I'll be perfectly honest, it's not something that takes a lot of work. We use Flitz polish to just polish things up without removing metal. IF we need to go deeper than that, we wet sand using very fine grit sand paper but I rarely have to go that far and hate doing so.

Keep in mind, with polishing... generally less is more. If one wants to polish on their own (and if you aren't having any feeding issues, don't even mess with it) then I highly recommend only doing the flitz unless you know what you're doing. You can make things worse if you remove too much metal.

I've done the Glock trigger polishing using a dremmel polishing wheel with the polish that came along with it. It doesn't take away metal unless you stay on it for a while. I'll probably do the same here. Since the recoil spring is recommended to be replaced every thousand rounds, I'll probably use that as my opportunity to call CGW and talk to them. I really don't want to get rid of it. I want it to be a success and a reason to buy more CZs. Lol
