I started a thread not too long ago looking for suggestions on a good EDC knife. This one.
Some great suggestions in there and since then I made some purchases that I wanted to share with you.
With me being a new knife carrier I wanted to start with something that was relatively inexpensive but also well regarded as a "starter" knife. Idea was to avoid spending hundreds of dollars on something that I may end up not carrying.
So I went with the Delica 4, small, cheap to get into, and I liked the color.

Knife is solid, very sharp out of the box, and not heavy at all. Sits well in the pocket and while I was originally looking for an automatic or at least an assisted (before I started looking at costs) I can open and close this fairly easily with the spider hole. It is a pretty good Proof Of Concept knife for me.
Once I found myself carrying it, and fiddle farting with it at my desk I went back on to the Intertron and kept an eye out on the EDC and Knifeclub reddits. Lots of cool stuff on there, intermingled with folks that have a lot of discretionary income. Wasn't too long before a new knife was released, the Benchmade Bugout.
Video reviews started popping up and they seemed positive. Sounded like a solidly built knife and even lighter than the Delica 4. I was also interested in having a knife with the Axis lock system, and if I'm honest was intrigued by seeing people open and close these things (and similar Axis) knives with a flick of the wrist. And it happened to be blue, I like blue.

The Delica is very light, this Bugout is even lighter. What I also like is that true to form I can easily deploy and close this knife with one hand either by holding the Axis lock down and flicking the wrist, or by using the thumb stud to deploy and then closing with the Axis lock pulled down. Feels as solid as the Delica 4 and was razor sharp out of the box, ask me how I know.
Something else that I really appreciate as a novice anyway, is that the pocket clip on the Bugout allows for the knife to almost disappear it rides so low. I sometimes forget it's even there. That's not to say the Delica rides high, but you can tell from the picture above the difference is 1/2 to 3/4 inch or so.
And while the Bugout is slightly smaller than the Delica when closed, the blade is actually longer. I'll appreciate that when I get into bigger and bigger...apples.
I paid $114 for the Bugout, and $60 for the Delica 4. Both are great knives and I will not be parting with either one.
Any questions let me know.
