I am currently conducting research before selecting an optic for a 12" barreled 300 blackout LaRue ultimate upper kit.

My search has been narrowed down to either a Trijicon MRO, or Aimpoint H2, T1 or H1. The gun will eventually be SBR'd and be used for home defense, range fun, and occasional close-range hog/predator hunting.

I seek guidance, reviews and recommendations on these optics.

Can't give you comparison info, but try to take a look through the optics before buying if possible. Astigmatism made the h1 dot bloom a bit for me. Apparently the anti reflective covers solve/mitigate the issue, but these are only for the 30mm tube model afaik.

I loved the micro when I had it. Change the battery once a year (didn't need it) and never turn it off.

My heart has been telling me MRO from the beginning.

Never used the Aimpoint. Have been using an MRO on a 300BLK for about a year and love it. I have never had to adjust since I put it on the weapon.

They're both good have H1 T1 and MRO, I have a slight preference for the aimpoint it's a tad clearer and lighter weight. But MRO is still a solid choice.

I have an Aimpoint CompM2 sitting in the safe that I'd perhaps be willing to part with. It's darn near in mint condition.

I agree with trying them both. I notice some distortion with both, but they are both easily usable for me. We let someone borrow an MRO for a carbine class, and he saud it would not work for him. I find the Bushnell TRS and Burtis Fastfire III have the cleanest appearing dots for me, but I don't believe either of those to be as robust as an Aimpoint or MRO.

I have the H1 and MRO. I like the larger objective lens on the MRO but I do not like the bulk of MRO (confusing I know).I perceive there to be less of a shadow from the MRO, even when using both eyes open. My H1 is a 4MOA and I have a hard time telling if there is a difference in the dot size between 2MOA MRO and 4MOA H1 at the levels I use them at. Can't go wrong with either plus Larue mounts for both are around $100.

Pick your poison. Both are great optics. I mainly like having the larger tube in the MRO but I also think it looks better. The tiny red dots on ARs just don't seem to fit for me. I want as much FOV as possible and the small weight/size savings with going with a Micro just doesn't work with me. MRO gives a good middle ground between a micro and full size dot.

Also, in regards to the "bloom"... that is something anyone with astigmatism will run into with a red dot/hollow. What the filter does is essentially simulate the pinhole effect, which works. Basically, what it is doing it making all of the light parallel and hit your cornea at the perfect angle if you are looking directly at it. If you look off a bit, you'll see a little blur in the periphery but not something that you'll notice straight on. Look up pinhole glasses.... they actually do work. All sorts of other issues involved and the ones that have a big mesh of pinholes are not good. When I wake up first thing in the morning, I can't see until I put my glasses on. If they aren't right next to my bed and I want to see what time it is on the clock across the room, I'll put my fingers together in a way to make a pinhole. Voila, I can see what time it is.




The amount of now useless optical knowledge I possess bothers me sometimes.
