Just mounted the Burris XTRII 1x5 and decided to take some pictures. Haven't shot it yet, just getting it in is half the fun.

I take my 5.56 AR to 400-500 pretty regularly with a 4x prism. It's plenty to get the job done

Larue Tactical 6.5 Grendel

Yes, it's $1,999 without scope. I got the optional 5.56 barrel as well. I believe they do come with their scope mount even if you don't order the scope. Looking forward to loading for the Grendel to see what it can do.

Couple of questions:

Why is 6.5 Grendel not more popular? AR-15 compatible. Smaller and lighter rifle than other long range cartridges from AR-10. Great ballistics out to at least 1000 yards.

So to change a standard AR-15 from 223/556 to 6.5 Grendel you would need? Barrel, bolt carrier, upper receiver? Or just complete upper?

If you were going to build a Grendel from scratch which manufacturer would you go to for upper and lower receiver to start with?

For me it's because I'm not going to build a long range gun on that platform. There's better performing rounds that aren't constrained by a receiver. It's a smaller round than I'd want for large game and generally going to be a heavier rifle than I want to lug around the mountains. It's a more expensive and harder to find round than I'd want to shoot off the shelf.

It was a round designed to stretch the AR platform instead of designing a better long range round under 7mm (like a 260. or 6.5 Creedmore).

Just my opinion.

However if you're the military or only want to have one rifle system (AR) for multiple calibers than this is it to stretch your legs or hunt medium sized game.

I wanted a Larue 6.5 Grendel but didn't want the 2k price tag. I bought the Larue 6.5 Grendel upper kit & put it on a aero stripped lower. Total cost of $850. The only difference that I can tell is they went with a mil spec bcg & charging handle but everything else is the exact same. I am very happy with the final product. If they end up selling a stripped lower I will buy it & have a full Larue rifle.

Only difference is barrel, bolt & magazines. Everything else is the standard AR15 platform.

How did you get a complete LT upper and lower for $850? The upper kit is $800+tax alone. Not doubting you, honestly curious.

Sorry I was going off memory. Larue was $800 pre tax & before shipping. Total Larue cost was $864 + aero lower that I got on sale for $50. The Larue comes with everything but the stripped lower receiver. So total cost was $914 for a very nice 6.5 Grendel.

You still had to add a trigger assembly, butt stock and buffer tube right? Still a great deal with an awesome upper. How did you like shooting it? Still haven't fired mine yet.

The kit came with the Larue MBT trigger, Larue rat stock & buffer tube. Pretty sweet deal. The only thing it didn't come with was the stripped lower. If I tried to sell my rifle I wouldn't get near what you would get for your rifle but I am pleased with my setup. I hope Larue decides to offer up a stripped lower so I can have a complete rifle but I don't know if that will ever happen.

I haven't shot mine yet. I still need an optic & I haven't ordered mags yet. The upper deal caught me off guard so I wasn't prepared to complete my rifle yet.

Damn that's awesome! I didn't catch that part or maybe I did and my brain wouldn't let me process it.

Those of you that purchased the larue upper kit in black, does your upper receiver match the hand guard in color? My upper seems to be a few shades lighter than the hand guard

Mine is a dead on match. LaRue is known for customer service if you aren't happy call them up.
