My family (me, wife, 10yr old boy, 8yr old boy) will be headed up to a cabin at Broken Bow on Thursday (through Sunday). My fishing experience is somewhat limited but mostly just drowning worms with my dad. Fishing but not necessarily a lot of catching...

The boys have been bank fishing with me a few times while camping. It's been a while but the 8 yr old actually seemed to have more patience to just sit in one place and throw a line out for a while. Whereas the 10 yo will cast and, if he doesn't immediately get a nibble, will reel in and run 20 yards down the bank to cast again.

We are interested in a getting out on a boat with a guide but it seems most of what I see online is fly fishing guides and I'm not sure any of us are ready for that. I suppose it may be too late to book a guide anyway but does anyone have recommendations for guides, bank fishing, boat fishing, or anything else to do while we're there?

Go straight to the camp site by he dam. Take your kids and have them fish left of the river by the dam. Loaded with brim and perch.

Is your 10 year old named Mike Iaconelli?

No, but he'd probably like the Iaconelli YouTube vids.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is our first time in the area so sorry if this is a dumb question, but do you mean the bigger dam at the lake? On the map I'm looking at, there are two dams.

Thanks for the recommendations! Still looking for any additional bank fishing locations. For anyone who finds this thread later, Rob's suggestion for lake trips is Dustin Bray at Bray's Lake Guide Service.

We had the family up there last week. A local told us that there isn't a ton of bank fishing due to the depth and rapid drop off of the lank from the bank. The lake is around 182' deep. That said, we were driving around N. of the marina and saw some people bank fishing one of the areas where you could pull over and park. It was like a cove. Looked great. Not sure the success.
