@Ribeye-Rare

Thanks for all of that info. I appreciate everyone chiming in with their experiences, very helpful!

I think that's what we'll end up doing since we already have 2 backpack sprayers and a few jugs of Remedy. I guess we'll start with spraying to kill the tree, and I'll look at renting either the T770 or the one you mentioned. It just comes down to price and time. I could probably take a week off work, and do a few 8hr days of mulching, if needed. I just wasn't sure if the T770 could destroy a 8" mesquite with ease, but sounds like it could without an issue. I drive a 2016 Chevy 1500, and realized after looking I'll need a 2500 to tow this stuff. Maybe a semi if I go any bigger... LOL

Quick question... My father-in-law keeps telling me not to mulch, despite everything I've read, and says the mulching will spray the thorns everywhere, and result in vehicles getting flat tires when driving on the land. If this is true, how would you fix this? I feel like everyone has an opinion, but nobody is right. LOL

txcajun,

Trust me on this one. I've had acres of dead mesquites mulched, and I've never (not even a single time) had a problem with thorns after mulching. Something happened to the thorns, but I sure haven't seen any.

Obviously, before the trees are mulched the thorns are a giant pain in the tail.

The mulching process is very violent. I doubt many thorns survive intact, and even if some do, they won't be attached to a limb for stiffness, so it might be very hard for them to be in position to flatten a tire.

My own rule is to wait three years. After the mesquite dies, it is safe for me to drive over it in the fourth year. In the third year it is unlikely but no need to take chances.

When I am spraying a very thick grove of mesquite, I will spray into the grove as far as I can reach. The next year I will use my front end bucket to push the dead ones out of the way so I can get in there farther without running over thorns.

This is solid advice.
