I've got a wilderness 11.5 ride kayak and have been considering putting a short shaft trolling motor on it. Does anyone have any ideas for a bracket to attach it to? Also, if I put the trolling motor on it do I have to register the yak?

I just got a Shadow Caster 123 and have considered putting a trolling motor on it. I found a couple YouTube videos showing how other guys have mounted them, and I got some good ideas through that. My favorite bracket from those videos won't work on your kayak (no molded rear handle), but you'll find something that does.

Per TPWD:

Quote:

The following vessels (when on Texas public water) are required by law to have current registration. This includes vessels that are docked or moored:
  • All motorized boats, regardless of length (motorized boats include boats propelled by a trolling motor); and
  • All sailboats 14 feet in length or longer or any sailboat with an auxiliary engine(s); and
  • USCG Documented vessels.
