I live in Denver and there are geese all over the city year round. This time of year they're raising their young and are way more aggressive than usual. I like to walk around the lake where i live with my dog but tonight there were so many geese on the sidewalk with their young that i couldn't go all the way around. Does anyone have any tips on how to chase them off the sidewalk? I tried Google but only came up with permanent deterrents which i can't deploy in public spaces. I'm looking for something i can carry with me that will make the geese get away from me instead of me getting away from the geese.

Lots of ideas but CDOW would frown on all of them! Actually, your hippie neighbors would all turn on you as well. Used to live in Golden and they can get a bit ornery! I hear goose jerky isn't too bad...

I hate to be THAT guy but they are Canada geese. I know I know - everyone calls them Canadian. I grew up doing it too. But Canada it is. My impression has been the further north you live/were raised the more likely you are to call them Canadas vs Canadian.

A poor spread and bad calling seemed to have worked well back in the day.

I've been watching a lot of Life Below Zero on natGeo. That one family had their 8 year old girl clubbing geese and ringing their neck. And she enjoyed it.....

Can't you just kick them or carry a golf club with you?

Or maybe a squirt gun with dish soap and water? My grandpa used to to that with his roosters.

Bigger, meaner dog. Get one of those nasty sum*****es that will just tear any animal to pieces. Better answer is probably grow a pair or poison the birds but this would be more entertaining

They sense fear. If they see you and your Yorky acting timid and afraid they're gonna be on you like white on rice. You'll be covered in a flock of angry flapping biting honking geese and someone will post it on YouTube so it can go viral and you'll become the laughing stock of the world.

OR you could remember that you're a MAN and at the top of the food chain while you approach the geese without fear. They'll probably still attack and you'll still be on YouTube, but at least you'll have your pride. Until you start screaming like a little girl, that is.

Best cure for aggressive geese is to plant your boot (or in your case your sandal) right in their chest. It's even more effective if you do so while holding their head.

And by the way, if they bite you it doesn't really hurt.

Using those with your hands you'd be able to break as many of their necks that came close to you.

Also, people used to get so pissy when my lab would kill the ducks at Brothers Pond in CAS. Well it's not my fault someone bought stupid birds to a City pond that allowed dogs to swim in it.

Join your HOA's landscape committee and get some cattails planted around your lake (you could also just talk to them but your words will carry more weight if you are also willing to provide some elbow grease). Canada geese prefer large open areas and cattails take away their sight lines. Also, you'll probably gain ducks in the process because they like the cover. They are also less messy.

The added benefit is that for the cost of helping prune a few bushes and pull some weeds at the front entrance you will be pretty much immune to any criticism from the HOA about your own house b/c they won't want to lose your help.

edit to add: Whenever a homeowner would complain about the cattails in the common areas we explained this duck vs. geese strategy to them and it was pretty much the end of it.

They're descended from velociraptors. Packs of wild Canada geese have been known to flock at unsuspecting individuals in dozens and kill them in minutes. I hear that death by goose bites is a terrible way to go.

At least they're not ducks though...

Is this really a problem? This has to be a troll. What kind of dog do you have that can't hold it's own against a goose? Simply kick any goose that causes a problem and keep walking around your lake. If they don't get the point, then grab it by its long ass goose neck and chunk it as far as you can. They will soon get the message real fast that you are meat eating (to include geese) mammal that weighs exponentially more.

Sorry that Google can't tell you how to be a man and deal with this non problem, but luckily texags can.
