Thinking about buying this used smoker on craigslist. It seems to be a great deal for $750, but there is some rust which is mildly concerning. What does the OB think?

Cooking surface - 48" x 20"
Firebox - 24" x 20"
Custom built out of 3/8" steel

It appears to be well built, but 750 seems a little steep to me. I wouldn't worry about the rust a whole lot.

In with this guy. It's ok but it ain't 750 ok. The pictures are bad so it's a bit hard to tell on the construction but I wouldn't pay anything over 500 for that.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. Most of the custom smokers on craigslist are well over my price range. I really don't want to spend over $1,000, and am looking for a good offset smoker. Any recommendations for a new smoker in this price range?

I'm gonna sell my lyfe Tyme grill probably for 600 it's similar just have put it up for sale yet since we moved and I use my egg a lot more. If your interested I'll put some pictures in here

Good looking smoker! I've heard positive feedback about lyfe tyme. Unfortunately, Im up in FW, and no plans to head to Austin anytime soon.

Just chip away at the rust layer. I have destroyed many pieces of equipment and pipe. From carbon steel to unobtainium alloy . Carbon steel can look like there has been severe corrosion but when you scrape away it turns out not so bad. But you will not really know until you tap at it and scrap away the flakes.

You can do better than 750. I got this exact smoker above for FREE from my neighborhood Facebook "garage sale" page. Old "Smokermaster" brand.

Needs a bit of work, but I've got a welder doing a complete overhaul for $200.00. New stack, new angle iron & expanded metal on the inside & a sandblast/refinish.

Oklahoma Joe smokers are less than $500 at Lowes. They are a quality smoker. We have a Lyfetime we bought at Academy for less than $500 probably 6 or 7 years ago.

$750 for that smoker is pretty high
