I've seen just normal higher winds launch guys when I was over in Perth. I can't believe they were out there, just stupid reckless.

More laughing because of the ridiculusness, and the "Florida Man" headlines
God Bless Floridaman.

He makes a whole bunch of people appear moderately sane.

Florida takes the cake. People are windsurfing in Miami since the storm went a little more West. Can't make this stuff up lol

Ehh it's not that bad. He's obviously just ducking around in the shallows. If he were like the idiot in Centerpoles video, and held on, that would be a different story.

No way Perth is bigger than Irma, Brah.

Why so quiet on Irma in here?

Irma did not amount to much thankfully(at least here in the States I mean). There is a lot of damage but nothing that Florida has not seen already. Not much to talk about aside from storm pattern as it came in and where it is going. The Keys were the hardest hit but I have not seen too much data coming in from that area yet.

In essence there really isn't to much to talk about IMO. Already feels like media is shifting focus to Jose.

And, it didn't stick around for days. It was more like a normal hurricane that comes through and then 24 hours later it is gone and people move on.

We're in it right now, rotation in the clouds indicated on radar just passed about 3/4 of a mile south of here. The surge is supposed to be a foot or two more than Matthew from what I was told but tree damage has been a lot less than last year. I think it's because a lot of the weak branches were already taken out. We still have power but there are scattered outages all over the place.

For us it's just a long day of paying attention to radar since isolated tornadoes are about the biggest risk and they're peppered all over.

Was watching the local station (thanks to DirecTV for streaming them) and they were reporting that the Weather Service was calling for 5-9' surges and sparked all the evacuations. Now they had revised them to 1-2'.

Local weather man said "the scenario playing out put the best case scenario from the National Forecast to shame". They were very happy to see the path it took compared to other possibilities.

And now people are going to complain that it was fear mongering and that forecasts can't be trusted and that will lead to another Katrina.

It wasn't a 'medium strength' storm - it just happened to miss Miami and hit a (relatively) unpopulated area. The middle Keys likely are pretty well torn up.

My understanding is that it came ashore on the mainland as a cat 3 (or that it at least very quickly downgraded to a cat 3 upon making landfall). Is that not the case?

This is correct. It hit the Keys as a 4 and the mainland at Marco Island as a 3 and downgraded fairly quickly to a 2 and was a 1 this morning.

It may not have been as bad as many predicted but in my decade in Gainesville, FL, that was the worst storm I've experienced. Flooding was nothing compared to Harvey but there was a surprising amount flooding around the city.

Freaking lot of tornadoes around here today. The inlaws are under the gun now and we've been there twice now.

I have a business partner in St. Pete, who has family across Tampa, Orlando and Lakeland. 6 of his 7 families lost power. One lost their roof. He's one who lost power and has a lot of branches, but no trees down. He was in his bunker all night.

I thought I had seen pictures of the buoy before the storm and it was all wrapped up in plastic and protected, and I thought 'that's smart'. Then the live feed post I noticed it was unprotected - I'd imagine all that wave action can do hella damage to a vertical surface.

My guess is those waves had a ton of sand coming along with.

Looking at the 10 day for the coast it appears high pressure is holding strong for us. South wind just came back with a slight chance for rain on Sunday but clear and sunny for the next 10. Hope that will protect us. My roof is going on tomorrow

Now that Jose may affect the NE, when will Jose officially named "Superstorm Jose"?
