Does anyone know of a website or map showing flooded areas in Houston. Just trying to get an idea of which parts of the metro area are underwater.

I think Houston Transtar should give you the best idea for high water road ways.

WHEW. Just heard from her and it isn't her. Water is creeping up their driveway, but otherwise dry. She has friends currently in their attic waiting for the National Guard to come rescue them, though.

My dad went back to Portland last night from Austin. Took 130 to Lockhart, Luling, Karnes City. 181 in to Portland. Didn't have any issues. No power and the city has shut off water, but he said otherwise, the city looked relatively good

I think I can make it back relatively easy by taking 35 to SA and 37 to Corpus area. Not sure from there.

Gonna be an interesting drive.

Read this first. http://www.kens5.com/mobile/article/news/can-i-go-back-home-to-corpus-christi-yes-but/467828663

Thanks for the info, I'm fully aware. I'm leaving the wife and kids in Austin for TBD. I'm actually in Portland and the situation there may be a little more dire than CC. I've heard widely differing reports regarding how long it's going to take to get utilities back.

Regardless, I've got to get back and start picking up he pieces of my home and business. The situation is just completely ****ed up beyond recognition.

Thank you. That's my preferred route but I wasn't comfortable with the smaller highways. I will consider it based on radar when I leave.

Texags comes thru again.

I don't think luling is a safe route anymore.

Edit to add a friend that lives in Gonzales had water in his garage around midnight.

2 and 3 day totals show pretty much all of Houston getting 20+ inches.

Live east of Caldwell, between there and cooks point and have had somewhere around 12 inches. That's my best guess as the gauge was overflowing when I got up this morning.

Grandma's house in Dickinson has about 18" of water in the first floor. She still doesn't want to leave.

I know nothing about his politics, but this Houston mayor's answer to the "why didn't you evacuate Houston" question was perfect.

Basically it would've been much worse to have upwards of 6Million people that live in Harris county on the roads. Safest to be in your home

Evacuating 6.5mm people takes incredible coordination not just from evac point but along the entire way to the destination. And there was no destination because no one knew(and still knows) what destinations would have it worse. Putting people on the roads without knowing that is the worst thing you could do and unfortunately the safest place to be is your own home.

But emphasized putting that many people on the roadways would have been absolutely horrible, and he's right. You have to manage the situation in such a populous County and city

Yeah. It's just a stupid question on so many levels. I know it's easy to ask ignorantly, but just one level of critical thought says "are you kidding?"

There are 20 major reasons why it'd be a horrible idea. This is just an unknown storm situation... Purely a read and react type of storm.
