Southwest Airlines did the same crap to me the day before Katrina. Told me to come to the airport that my flight was still going.

Meanwhile the Governor is on TV saying the airport is closed and to GTFO.

Had I listened I would have been stuck at the airport for days.

Folks had one outbuilding destroyed and oak trees are being whipped pretty bad.

The waves of rain come like a solid wall and race like a car across my hay fields. Physically hurts when they hit.

News out of Port A is not good. Saw a Facebook post from someone claiming to be personal friends with the sheriff of Port A. According to her, the roads are a total loss, island is in six parts, the entire pier of Virginias, Woody's, Trout Street is gone. Only way on the island may be the ferry. Send your prayers.

My sister is supposed to leave on a cruise from Galveston tomorrow. The cruise line has been very wishy washy on what is happening. They were told they would get an update at noon yesterday. That update was "Everything is fine, we are still watching the situation. We will provide another update at noon Saturday." Meanwhile, the Port of Galveston is closed and there is no way to dock the ship.


There is supposed to be a news briefing at 11:00AM this morning with cruise and port officials. Go to galvnews.com for updates (not sure how to post links, sorry).

...got similar info from a friend. My cell contacts all went dead about 6:00 last night when it was about 50mph...

"Trout st, Virginias and all of the condos between dolphin docks and deep sea headquarters have blown away. The condos knocked out Dairy Queen on the way"

That's off Cotter toward the ferry for those that don't know Port A

I'd expect would be hearing about that if it were true. People also said that the Rockport HS was "...GONE." So much hyperbole right now and I know there is real damage but I also take with a grain of salt these big claims. The damage showing up on social media and the news is nowhere near as bad as what some people are saying. I'm not downplaying the real story. Just staying let's wait for official proof.

You're right and I am not trying to spread inaccuracies. Mainly just trying to encourage people to send their prayers. I have family that evacuated two homes down there. Port A is one of my favorite places in the world. My family does not know if they will have homes to go back to.

Saw a photo from Cotter Street yesterday evening. Cotter Street looked in really bad shape during daylight hours. It hadn't even got to the major winds, more rain, and storm surge.

Out of state friends and family often have no grasp of how big Texas is, so they will pester you constantly about events that are hours away. It's easy to use the FB thing to reassure them.
