One stream I'm watching said KPRC out of Houston had their satellite ripped off their truck at the hotel they are at in Rockport.

I believe Jeff is reporting dopler speeds at a higher elevation. I had to look it up and it appears there are different ways to estimate surface wind speed from speeds measured from planes and other ways.

No, this is what mandatory evacuations are for. Do not expect people to risk their lives for you after you ignored the warnings.

While there will be some who had no means to get out, there are plenty who made the conscious choose to stay. I hope those who couldn't get out are safe, but I don't see how they will be.

At this point we just have to pray for them and hope for the best. There is no way I would send anyone into this, in the dark with flying debris. At this point you have to wait until it passes and then assess the damage and rescue any survivors.

He was reporting wind speeds at 2000 feet.

But it wasn't steady 40. TWC simply didn't have accurate readings as it went through Rockport.

The hosts were even saying sustained winds over 100 when the eye wall was going through, so Jeff was showing sustained probably 110 with gusts to 135

Assuming the building was built following ASCE/IBC and depending on the building type, the wind speed used for design is between 140 to 160 mph.

Whatever jeff went through was impressive and frightening. To call it 40mph sustained is laughable

I've been through tornadoes, hurricanes, and Bering Sea storms. I've seen plenty of 100+ mph wind. Jeff was definitely in triple digits for long stretches.

Good grief, you add two clubs to play golf in 30 mph wind. He wasn't in 30 mph wind.
