Jeez. All you people crying about a little rain.

LOL. 2 feet widespread is now a little rain.

Lighten up, francis. Of course I was joking.

Sitting in a heldenfelds classroom in 2005 with the university announcing preparations for Hurricane Rita, I started playing "Rock you like a hurricane" loudly on my laptop. I thought it was hilarious, my classmates from near the coast thought I was a dick

Sounds funny to me.

Wait to see what happens tonight. I won't do anything to mine until Thursday evening or even Friday morning in the rain. If it stays a TS I wouldn't worry too much.

Thoughts on boarding windows in rockport ?

Not a bad idea. That's basically ground zero and even a 60-70 mph wind can blow some shlt around.

However, I don't see wind being a big issue wit this one.

I'm in Portland. Not making that call til tomorrow. I've done it too many times only to have no real storm impact.

Cant remember which storm it was, early 2000s, had a bullseye on CC. Turned at the last minute and went in at Port Lavaca. We all had our windows boarded and got about an inch of rain and 30 mph winds.

Im already gathering a little bit of stuff up, but doubt boarding will be necessary for this one.

Could have been, I really don't remember except for the fact that we went through a whole bunch of work for nothing.

IF it goes in North of us as TS, I may board the north windows only.

IF it hits us directly as TS or stronger, its a different animal.

Looks like Aggieland could get wet.

Quote:

Five-day rainfall forecast for Harvey from the 6Z Wednesday, August 23, 2017 run of the HWRF model. The model predicts that most of the Texas coast will receive 8+ inches of rain, with more concentrated rains of 16+ inches (orange colors) focused inland from Austin to College Station.

Don't I know it. At least you live in Calallen (I think). In Portland spring is downright brutal at times.

North of Corpus? Guess I've never really considered Lavaca/Jackson/wharton counties as "North of Corpus"... I mean geographically, sure, but not really as a description of where they actually are.

I called my dad today to see what his plans were for our place in Indianola. He won't be boarding windows either. Humberto didn't do much damage to our place and surprisingly he didn't act too concerned and normally he freaks about storms. He has also boarded windows all to many times for nothing.

You laugh, but if it rains that much in BCS, stay away from the basements in some of those older buildings on campus unless you like being exposed to health hazards.

Looks like the heavy rain swaths on the NOAA site are pushing more and more NW. Choke Canyon could possibly be full by the end of next week.

Now that we are in the age of social media I'm sure we will get an update every time this thing rotates around or farts out a thunderstorm.

well, best i can tell, the following is relevant history for the lower brazos:

1994 flow was 90k, that was probably about 51' gage height at richmond or so, 16-20" of rain south of college station
99 about 80k
02 and 04 were around 70k
07 got to about 70k
15 got to about 75k = 50' gage height at richmond
16 got to 105k = 54' gauge height at richmond, they call that 100-500 year rainfall most places, a once in 10,000 year rain event in waller county.

now these damned forecasts are showing another 10,000 year rainfall event in waller county. They'd better damned well be VERY WRONG, for my sake.

As a non-weather person I've seen what feels like 5 different models that say the BCS area will get anywhere from 1 to 24 inches of rain.

Guess I'll just stock up on beer in case stuff happens.
Brush Country
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The media wont acknowledge it, but its well known by those who've been on the coast for awhile, when a storm is coming, you stock up on water, dry goods, batteries.....and beer.
